I've been looking for a thread on Vrancic without success, so I thought I'd start one.
I was unimpressed when I heard we had signed him and my reaction was: here we go we have signed another old reject from a club we should be outperforming.
But I keep reading glowing reports and thought he was impressive on Saturday. You can always tell quality when a player "has time" when he gets the ball.
Each report sounds good, have we picked up a real deal with this player?

Looked really good tonight, seemed to work well with Allen and Powell, he can take a corner too, which is a bonus, Very confident when with the ball, looking forward to watching him this season!

He is clearly a classy player from what I've have seen while he was at Norwich, looks very comfortable in possession, has a beautiful delivery, intelligent passer and a cracking left foot. I'm very happy with this signing, he comes across as a really nice guy and professional too.

reminds me of a Mills type midfielder signing Devine, Palin, Kelly & er...Scott
lovely touch, good passer (& in Vranic case good set pieces) can't see him making too many tackles spindly legs
linked up well with Powell,Brown,Fletcher & Doughty

I think he's exactly what we were missing and could turn out to be a great signing.

It is if you want to be MotM as voted for in the Waddington suite...seems to be the criteria anyway I base this solely on one observed occasion when the sponsors voted for Wayne Thomas (v Chesterfield) and the, mainly female, guests at the table all thought he had nice legs...which of course was true, albeit he didn't have a very good game that night

He's been a top end Championship/lower Premier League regular for the past two seasons, playing plenty of games for a successful Norwich team. I don't know who or what you're expecting, but he's about as good as we could hope for on a free.

Maye I am still brassed off with the dross Rowett and Jones brought into the club many the wrong side of 30. We bought a relatively young Afobe for a fortune from a promoted side who had clearly sussed just how "good" he was. I've lost count of the number of old players signed, including those 2 Everton cast offs we loaned. Hopefully you are right and I was too hasty jumping to a conclusion we had bought yet another player who is past it and simply signing for their last decent pay day. I certainly back MON's judgement over Rowett and Jones. Here's hoping.

We know we can’t spend lots so just calm down and let people have there say

Each report sounds good, have we picked up a real deal with this player? He was more times than not a first team regular in Norwich's side. In particular, he was very influential in the middle part of last season. He's an outstanding No 10, but one who could also play as a creative deep-lying midfielder too. And by the way, the original Vrancic thread is here: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/300509/confirmed-mario-vrancic-signs-initialMight be best to just add to that main thread.

Thanks for the link; I searched repeatedly for Vrancic but it never came up! Happy for Admin to combine this thread. My initial concern about his signing is repeated in your first sentence: the use of the word "was". My concern is , is he another past it player? We have signed so many in the last 3 seasons. We have a whole bunch of players who are past their best and people still judge them on past times. Players like Afobe, Ince, Clucas, Allen, etc have had excellent seasons in the past but last season contributed nothing/little. Hopefully Vrancic can really make a difference this season, he has started well.

With the others you mention, it depends on how you play them based on their past reputation. We played Allen further forward when I think he works best as a deeper tackling midfielder, and Afobe’s style didn’t suit the systems we played. Ince I’ll grant you, I can’t work out why we haven’t been able to make him tick. But he came with a great reputation and no evidence he was a risky player. In Vrancic’s case, I don’t see any evidence he was on the wane. I actually can’t figure out why he was sidelined in the last third of the season.

He is not just an important player but very important behind the scenes. Languages are important in the modern game.

Another good performance by Vrancic today.
As for spindly legs, no one had long spindly legs like Conroy.
Vrancid with his legs and a bit of a stoop does remind me of George Eastham.
