Spain seem to have been overlooked in all this.

Spain have not looked anything special so far, still a very good team and can see a victory.

Spain are a shadow of the team that dominated from 2008 to 2012, they still have decent players but lack a bit up top. I hope Italy make the final as they’ve been the most exciting team of the tournament so far, the only disappointing thing is their antics rolling around on the floor but the Spanish are also guilty of that.

I can't look past how poor the Spanish CB pairing have looked. I'd be very surprised if Italy don't exploit it.
From an English point of view, we can beat either but would prefer Spain.

This seems as good a place as any to remind us of the Miracle of Munich…
The Lord made the lame walk (or the Immobile mobile).
He does indeed work in mysterious ways.

Pathetic isn’t it, I’d like to see a retrospective ban for this or at the very least a yellow card (after this has been spotted on VAR). Feigning injury is just as bad as diving.

Let’s wait and see.

Let’s wait and see. Sadly, football just reflects life in general, where cheats and liars do prosper. Largely because very little is ever done to them when it's obvious they are cheating and lying, which basically just encourages it. As much as I admire English teams for generally not indulging in this play acting, and I hate to see it, it's also a bit naive in that respect.

Especially after what happened to Eriksson True, the old "boy who cried wolf" fable, do this too often and nobody will believe you when you are actually injured.
Occasionally you'll see a booking for diving, but more often than not, players who cheat often go unpunished. Hopefully VAR now saves us from the likes of Maradonna against England and Thierry Henry against Ireland, I'm not sure it goes far enough though, cheating to try and get another player sent off is a scummy way to play the game in my book yet teams like Italy and Spain continue to do this because they are never punished for it. I remember there were calls to ban Henry for a few world cup games after he cheated in the playoffs, and calls to replay the game, neither of which happened. I wonder what would happen with VAR in this incident, the goal would surely have been disallowed, but would Henry have been given a yellow?

Feigning injury is worse than diving. It’s really slimy. I was playing once and an opponent feigned injury on me. For the rest of the game I gave him the respect he deserved. Him wearing a shit shirt hardly helped my mood.

If var was around in 1986 Maradona wouldn’t have needed his hand. We’d have been down to nine men before then.

A yellow card doesn't come close to being adequate punishment. The guy cheated to try and win a penalty and possibly to get an innocent opponent sent off. The only reasonable response once the incident was checked after the game would be for him to get a ban from Italy's next 3 competitive games. I think that is the ONLY way to try to stamp out this sort of thing - but I am open to any better suggestions.

In a Sunday league game this kind of foul play would literally be stamped out, a yellow is just the minimum I'd suggest - there needs to be some reasonable evidence for it to be a red during the game but the way he gets up after this incident and celebrates clearly shows he is not injured. I'd like to see bans for this sort of thing, I'd hold the same view if it was a Stoke or an England player stooping to this shithousery, I don't want to see it in the game.

Spain seem to have been overlooked in all this. Italy have been brilliant. Plus can kill a game Spain have not been nowhere near their best and are very fortunate to actually get to the semi Spain winning tonight would not shock me at all.

From England's point of view, a Spain win would definitely be in our interests (assuming we manage to beat Denmark obviously). I could easily see Italy getting an early goal and then killing the game in a tedious and frustrating fashion.

The only thing video replays can reveal is whether a player goes down without being touched, or if he deliberately slips his leg in front of a player to feign a tackle. But I think VAR is limited in how far it can weed out diving and feigning injury. The technology can't analyse the impact of a strike to the leg or hand to face that could then process the likelihood of a player going down. If you leave it to human judgement (i.e. the referee) to decide, there will be cries of bias from those players that get booked and those that don't.

1-0 Italy. Lopez Ufarte own goal.
Don't think will be a classic. Spain still decent enough though

The entire Italian midfield have already been canonized and glow in the dark statuettes of Immobile have now sold out.
