Mark Hughes is a wanker of the highest order That may be the case but if so he’s a wanker with three consecutive top ten finishes at our club and no manager I can recall has achieve that even waddington as far as I recall . And while you king say lol at what he has at his disposal others with untold riches can’t even get us in the same league let alone the top half

8 games in if MON is struggling I'd consider him even now! Some the best players, best play I've ever seen in a Stoke shirt I don't care how long he's been out of work I think he'd do a good job Not sure he’s suited for a championship team

I think Shawcross' injury was the killer for Hughes. Bojan was dropped and everything began to go pear-shaped.
My favourite era as a Stoke fan is still under Pulis with Delap's throws and Pennant and Etherington on the wings. We played some great stuff at times and the directness was exciting (the Crouch volley where the ball never touched the ground from leaving Begovic was perfect). Though some of the football under Hughes was another level and also brilliant to experience.

I'll never forget his first pre season friendly at CW vs Burton, seeing the players we'd watched for the last 8+ years hoofing it at every given chance, now effortlessly passing the ball around on the floor, it was magical. He gave me 2/3 years of the best football I'd ever seen at Stoke and signed some of the best players we'll probably never call ours again :(

Funny isn't it, the same people who bleat about being '8th at Christmas' in 2012/13 are also convinced actually finishing 9th is totally meaningless...

If he´s matured, learned some lessons, I´d have him back once we go up. But right now we need someone like TP to build a motivated and fit team. <tinhat smiley> “I’d Have Mark Hughes back once we go up” is exactly the kind of comedic brilliance I scour the Oatcake for. Excellent stuff 😂

Who cares Stoke City fans in the main care. I used to work with a West Ham fan who claimed Stoke fans have no ambition because I’m happy with being an established Premier League team. Funny isn’t it how being that now would be seen as ambitious? Some people need to realise what we had was great, and stop thinking we were going to become the next Leicester and enjoy the success we had,

Get one thing clear:- Hughes WOULD have kept us up, we only failed by a couple of points That's the point he would have kept us up, we just needed 3 or 4 pts and then a top class replacement could have been brought in and rebuilt the side and the disaster of 3 seasons in the championship may never have happened

If MON left, who realisticly could we entice? Hughes in the main as been mostly successful, seeing the types of clubs he's managed, if he has learned by his mistakes he made with us, we could do a lot worse. Could he still entice players to sign for us who normally wouldn't?

The common denominator is bad decisions by the owners and a poor structure, of which Scholes is part. That is probably the fair way of saying it. But you know very well I have a particular problem with Scholes. Whether that problem is rational or only half rational is definitely up for debate. An endless debate mind because the club don't actually want the fans to know who actually does what behind the scenes so we really can never be sure.

His understanding of the demise is fair enough where it went wrong and seems to hold no grudges Seems to hold no grudges? I should hope not aswell, 3 big signings costing £50m total failures

Interesting... When that 'other man' couldn't finish that high himself, I'm not sure it speaks well of him to keep using that particular argument to deify him. It's been up to the owners in both cases to determine when they left. Pulis didn't choose to leave when he did. Neither did Hughes. The only difference is one was moved on at the right time and one was moved on when it was too late.

He spent £18m on our record signing that played once as far as I can recal, a player we have struggled to give away

He spent £18m on our record signing that played once as far as I can recal, a player we have struggled to give away The problem with this mate is that very little of it is true, is it? TP 'traded 9th place for longevity'. So it was all a cunning scheme to keep us in the bottom half of the table all along, because if we'd finished higher that would have been...bad? And this priceless scheme got him the sack in the end. So not a great plan, was it? Mark Hughes spent cash on top of that - pesky fact is that in his first two seasons he really didn't spend much at all. Shit the bed after that for sure. 'Took us into financial oblivion'. Was Gary Rowett given £50m in Monopoly money then? Wimmer sadly played significantly more than 'once'. Terrible signing mind.
