I was depressed when Leicester, Wolves, Burnley to name a few overtook us. And when Barnsley mullered us this year you have to think shit management at Stoke from the top

You hit it. We have ruined many a striker at this club because we can't supply a decent ball to them on a consistent basis. We play sideways/backwards football then try to force it in. The crossing is so bad that either some players are dropping acid before matches or they just flat aren't practicing it during the week. And we're trying to win matches by only playing 1 half anymore, not going to cut it. We can't complete passes above walking pace because it's an anomaly to SEE any player moving at pace so they no longer know how to "lead" fast-moving targets. And the throw ins? I think that's the acid. Name all the strikers we have ruined? Sorry Vincent, just saw this. What I was getting at actually goes beyond just strikers and I can't name them all, but Bony, Jese, Berahino, Joselu, Choupo-Moting come to mind as players that did better before coming here or do better elsewhere after leaving. (I'm not counting Imbula because I don't think he EVER had it) Our recent "systems" have all seen us getting the ball into the final 1/3rd of the field only to run out of ideas. I believe that Lionel Messi would struggle to score here due to lack of service. (Plus we've never had the opportunity to confirm the "cold, wet, windy" thing with him) That's kind of what I was getting at.

To be fair, 2-3 of those forwards (only three are really out and out strikers) were broken long before they rocked up here.

Yep, another reason some players do better somewhere else - we excel at bringing in players at the wrong end of their careers. But I still say something's going on over and above just the manager here. It's been going on too long and through several managers. Somehow, we've become a salvage-yard operation that is not that good at resale.

I think it's not so much that things are happening over and above the managers as that we've given the managers themselves far too much leeway and we've had no kind of coherent succession plan, instead just a knee-jerk "ooh, I've heard he's good" approach to hiring. The result is an amorphous blancmange of a squad that isn't really fit for purpose.

Because you are spot on about our knee-jerk approach to manager-searches with no plan for succession. Also, did I remember right? We had a couple turn us down over the past several years? Wasn't Lambert a "Plan C?" (And we were more attractive as a club than we are now) I could see some avoiding us now, given the constraints of FFP and our salvage-yard inventory. We aren't a totally unattractive job and likely would have a queue of prospects. But we may have to settle for "Plan D" this time around. And the amorphous blancmange of a squad - yep that's mix of all this manager-switching and a "what the hell were they thinking?" approach. That's the reason I've been "too long on the trigger" with MON myself. Because here we'd go again with someone else and a bunch of players we don't want and maybe can't get rid of. Hopefully any "issues" at the club itself are more minor than I fear. Because if it's all on the manager, that would be nice because it's far easier to fix.

Yeah, getting the appointments wrong so many times stems from this lack of a singular vision or direction. That's why I'd support us going down the Sporting Director route.

Exactly.
Just my opinion, but it sure seems that we have decent people owning the club. They just don't know football as well as a died-in-the-wool specialist does. Maybe that's the ticket.

I think it might have been a band I saw back in the 80's. Not sure if they ever supported World of Twist or not though.
