It certainly puts pay to the frankly ridiculous notion that we couldn't be far more competitive than we have been this season. We could have done better, I personally believe there's several reasons why we haven't but of course we could have. We also could have done a lot worse, see Forest, Derby, Bristol City and Sheff Wed 7th, 10th, 12th and 16th last season respectively. 1.5 mil for it could have been worse, bet the Coates are ecstatic.

I'm just looking at their squad on Wikipedia now and I can't see Tyrese Campbell listed anywhere, so I'm scratching my head as to how they've won so many games? So true. My personal opinion is that anybody who thinks the Tyrese Campbell injury is the main reason for the second half of the season demise is seriously deluding themselves. We were mostly terrible even with him in the side and he was scoring some goals out of nothing. It would not have lasted regardless of his injury. I get folks holding onto this hopeful notion that we are a decent team with him back but I will say right now, if we continue with this dour sideways, backwards no movement football, zero ability to pass the ball at anything above walking pace, giving throw ins straight to the opposition half the time, hitting one good cross out of 30 attempts and comedy gold defending, we will do no better than this season. The football on offer is weak, dour, boring and has zero style of play attached to it. It looks like a practice match every time we play except somebody forgot to tell the opposition! You hit it. We have ruined many a striker at this club because we can't supply a decent ball to them on a consistent basis. We play sideways/backwards football then try to force it in. The crossing is so bad that either some players are dropping acid before matches or they just flat aren't practicing it during the week. And we're trying to win matches by only playing 1 half anymore, not going to cut it. We can't complete passes above walking pace because it's an anomaly to SEE any player moving at pace so they no longer know how to "lead" fast-moving targets. And the throw ins? I think that's the acid.

Any idea why we’ve suddenly (coinciding with our best striker being injured) decided to be shit?

The Norwich and Barnsley games truly defined our season and exposed this season's truth..MoN's brand of football is boring and shite. Can't wait until he clears out the dross and replaces them with a team fashioned by his visionary thought process.

Fuck me, now it's Barnsley... at least it stops people carping on about Brentford.
If they go up, they'll be straight back down. They'll make Sheff Utd look like Man Citeh. If they don't go up they'll do fuck all next season.

All we do know is that after avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, this season they’ve made changes and way outperformed us

Barnsley's surge began in February, and two of their January signings (Dike and Morris) have done really well. I think if they sign Dike permanently, and keep Woodrow they will be up there again next season.

We scout badly, can't sell the shit, appoint managers with different plans to the last one. This means we end up with a hotchpotch of players who can't do what the new man wants

There were similar threads to this about Leicester when they were doing better than us in the Prem. Most felt we were more entitled than them too.
Why them?.... not us?

They play Pulis ball - Hoof Hoof No midfield to lose it and put us in trouble at this level, playing out from the back putting us in more trouble AT THIS LEVEL with these players. All they have done is put round players in round holes and square players in square holes kept it simple - may not be great to watch but he ho its worked for them - Good luck Barnsley in play offs - THen change your team & style for the premier league

Story of Football for most teams. It's not so much about entitlement as looking at what they've done right surely? Yes, that can also be true, and that's fine. I do feel though that a lot fans of teams of what we might describe as a similar status think they should be always doing better than them and often look down on those other teams. That's what I mean by entitlement. That's football human nature I suppose, but it's not logical and not a reflection of reality. The way fans on here say ....we are losing to QPR FFS!!!...as if that is embarrassing while when QPR are losing to Stoke their fans are probably as peed off and saying ....we are losing to Stoke FFS!!! Comparative analysis can be constructive for sure...i'm just reminiscing about the response to Leicester's success. I remember there was also quite a few on here who claimed it was all fixed by the Prem League and FA. In other words there is no way they could achieve that on merit.

Yeah, there was a lot of tantrum throwing on here about Leicester, I recall that. People crying conspiracy every time they got a penalty. Their success and our decline again just shows how crucial getting your recruitment right is.

First, it's a whole lot better than fannying around in 13th/14th, in the pisspoor league we're now entrenched in. And secondly, we might just learn from the lessons of the past, and come back down in a stronger position, PL money and all that. * OK, that second bit was a ridiculous suggestion.
