Hopefully something to cheer us up tonight With no game until Saturday I wonder whether the likes of Coates, Norton, Taylor etc will be drafted back in? I see no reason why not...... Agreed. We need to give our best U23 players game time so that they are all match fit for the playoff games. On the question of the playoffs, can anyone tell me the dates they will be played and if we have had confirmation that the club will broadcast them live? Also, is tonight's game being broadcast live - or, with it being a Bank Holiday have the club given the media staff the day off like they have the ticket office staff?

It shows how poor our first team performances have become when I've now reached the stage of having much greater anticipation of the U23 games than the first team games

I don’t get why they don’t show the game.... It was a social media blackout for over the weekend - it’s now Monday (yeah I know BH but still) and is YouTube really classed as social media? Turn comments off and show the game. They were happy to show the 1st team on the pay per view iFollow service though weren’t they?

"This is consistent and in line with the Club's generally secretive approach to news and gossip related items that might otherwise be regarded as being in the public interest, and is in keeping with the current policy of sustaining attempts to deny Stoke fans any entertainment or access to live football that might otherwise encourage unseemly exuberance or misplaced optimism amongst the remaining fan base. This policy will in turn lower expectations amongst supporters and allow the club to continue its long term 15 year plan to move the club forward, without the pressure of vociferous supporters demanding what might be considered as inappropriate investment, action and change from the Directors.

I wonder if our lads took it easy because they had nowt to play for. Sunderland don't have that excuse - they are trying to reach the playoffs.

Would agree, if fit, he, Wright Phillips and Norton should be the front 3 in the play offs.

Would agree, if fit, he, Wright Phillips and Norton should be the front 3 in the play offs. Of course as we still have to play Sunderland again away next week, it could be that Varian has been omitted from the squad so that any spies from the playoff clubs don't see those 3 playing together before the playoffs. Or is that a conspiracy theory too far?

Or is that a conspiracy theory too far? Yes, way to far. It suggests unthinkable possibilities, such as for example, the management team have both a plan and an imagination, and that we might be capable of cunning, deception and subterfuge! It's a lot to take in for one go.

Of course as we still have to play Sunderland again away next week, it could be that Varian has been omitted from the squad so that any spies from the playoff clubs don't see those 3 playing together before the playoffs. Or is that a conspiracy theory too far? Youth scouts have had plenty of opportunities to spy on Varian or the other blooming star materials throughout the season and now that he's an Ireland youth international they know all about him. And even if they don't, they can just go on utube and watch some of the full length matches the club has generously posted. So sorry, lp, but this one you lose The three new amigos did play a few matches together when DWP arrived in February, and he was more ready than fellow joinee Goodwin. He's nowhere near the class of the other three, but he's improving, and it has become very clear that the Stoke think tank is hellbent on developing a classic nine once the great Sam Vokes hands in his boots. That means we're in a bit of a hurry as that event can't come too soon. So Goodwin gets to play all the time as a lone wolf with three behind. I didn't watch last night's game, but from the team sheet it looked we were using a different system, but lately we've been utilising 4-2-3-1, so the three amigos will play there, while each one of them can step into a nine version, if Goodwin doesn't hit the ground running. You have to believe that Stoke will field their strongest team for the play offs, and then developing Goodwin can continue afterwards. Perhaps DWP wouldn't be everybody's idea of a big nine, but if I were a defender I wouldn't like someone with his pace and wizardry to come running at me...

Re our best team, I think there's 3 areas of contention.
GK - just who plays? I think it'll be Blondy?
CB to partner Forrester - will it be the left sided Macari or Taylor or both?
CM - Sparrow and Malone seem certainties but Adebambo has been one of the better players when I've seen him and I'd want him in the side if he was fit. But if we play with a back 3 then I think it'd be Malone and Sparrow.
I think the front 3 picks itself with Norton, Varian and DWP. But again, we have options.
A great place to be.
