£800k! Are we likely to have that kind of cash to splash this summer?

Looks good on the video but I'm sure Tom Ince could.
What's he been like this season?

I think this will be the new norm for a lot of clubs at our level, fishing in and around League One and Two.
Short term it will be an exciting new venture but long term it will do nothing but drive a bigger wedge between the Championship and the PL.

Looks good on the video but I'm sure Tom Ince could. What's he been like this season? forum.thefishy.co.uk/Blah.pl?m-1619557422/What a shame that it ended the way it did for him. Probably won't see him in a Town shirt again (fingers crossed that we do) but he has been brilliant the last few games A beacon of light in a town shirt. Thank you for all your efforts. I'd give a bollock to have him back at the club next season. Not a chance though, far too good for non league. Really hope he has a good career. In his short time he single handedly improved our midfield , for a young lad , with little previous League experience he has looked more interested, more capable and more motivated than most. Never been bullied and showed great promise. Love the way he uses his body and positioning , seems to play with alot older head on his shoulders. Given that he dropped the level to play games and boosted our performances as a result then a perfect example of a loan player. Would love to see him stay and play for us but destined for bigger and better things i would think. If you do read this then thank you for your efforts in this little corner of the world. A bright spot in an otherwise cr@ppy season. Great player but I think having Coke in there really helped him too - what a midfield combo that would be going into the conference. Matete has been superb, as others have mentioned, from day one. A real warrior in the middle of the park, which we'd been missing for a long time. Love the fact he gets stuck in, can play a bit, rarely loses possession, and isn't frightened of having a crack. When I saw he'd put us 1-2 up I really thought we might win tonight and maybe...just maybe...pull off the greatest of great escapes at Scunthorpe's expense. He grabs the game by the scruff of the neck so no complaints from me about his blood and thunder style. would like to see Hewitt, Menayese, Clifton, Coke, John Lewis, Macca and Matete all here next season but as others have mentioned I think likelihood is we won't see Matete in a Mariners shirt again. If that's the case, thanks a million Jay for helping us to believe, despite the odds being stacked heavily against us and best of luck with your new adventure. PS if you're reading this and you're willing to help us win promotion at the first attempt, name your price and we'll start another Operation Promotion... You'll go down in Grimsby folklore if you do Only slight disappointment with Matete is that he only started and end his spell with us by driving forward in games. A lot of games he played a lot deeper where he isn't anywhere near as effective. Not sure if that was down to him or instructions, but when he had the licence to push on he was something else. Absolute no chance of us keeping him. Real driving force in the midfield with an eye for goal. If he can cut out the silly tackles then he will be a top player. Last I've seen of him in a Town shirt, sod paying another £20 to watch our last two matches of the season. Quality player though, he brought a bit of enjoyment into a relentlessly tough to watch season. Really hope he kicks on and has a great season in 2021/22 wherever he is. I think he'll probably be in that Fleetwood starting lineup before long. What a good player he is. What a shame he's not going to sign for us, far too good for non league. It shows to me that Hurst has a good eye for a player, and perhaps he can get another player of his quality to replace him. Good luck and best wishes for the future young man.

£800k! Are we likely to have that kind of cash to splash this summer? £800k for a player loaned out from mid table L1 team to a club in L2 who have just been relegated to the National League. Wow. Surely if he's that good he should be playing regularly for Fleetwood instead.

Signed and loaned back to Fleetwood, surely? Don’t understand this loaning 20 year olds out 18 /19 years old yes to get first team experience But any player worth his salt should be knocking on the first team door at twenty

Don’t understand this loaning 20 year olds out 18 /19 years old yes to get first team experience But any player worth his salt should be knocking on the first team door at twenty That's fair. We don't need squad fillers though - got a few of them in midfield already. We need players whom are ready to make a big impact on the starting eleven. Is this lad one of them? No idea.

Hang on - Millwall haven’t got any money for Woods but they’ve £800k for this lad?

Hes certainly the type of player we should be looking at and taking a chance on. I'd much rather spend 800k on this lad than get a over the hill 30+ legs have gone past it on a free paying them more than 800k on signing on fee. Peterborough take punts on younger players in the lower leagues and its done them no harm, Brentford likewise. More of this please 👍

Looks a prospect, but on these clips doesn't look at all ready for championship football. Perhaps we are looking to sign him now to get him integrated into the squad before the mass exodus.

If there is anything in it, realistically, they aren't going to get anywhere near 800k for a 20yo that has played 2 games for them and 20 in a relegated League 2 team.

As ever these clips can be deceptive, but he seemed to have a bit of the Imbula about him..able to glide past players, but decision making not great when knowing when to release the ball. To be honest any footballer who looks forward and is happy to be aggressive in possession is better than the negative, sideways, inside, backwards rubbish players we have.
