I think any professional footballer though tends to keep personal opinions out of the public eye. You can sit and speculate that Bauer, McClean etc.. are well liked. But I'm sure many on here probably thought shawcross got along with the majority of the squad during the PL days and that it was harmonious. And we've recently learned that wasn't the case. I'm sure seeing players such as Vokes earning 30k a week with 0 goal contributions across the season must cause some form of resentment and frustration within the squad. Just because it isn't publicised doesn't mean everything is good within. We knew it wasn’t in the PL. There were different groups. Faye vs Whelan. Pigs head gate etc. From Powell to Campbell to Tymon they clearly like McClean. And it’s all been confirmed by people on here who know people too. They clearly liked Vokes too on the whole. I don’t think team spirit has ever been an issue under MON. The manager clearly didn’t like Bauer etc but the players clearly did.

Perhaps not an issue, but it does kind of look like it’s improved nonetheless. If anything, fewer bodies in for training and a fresher squad helps that. The intensity was there for all to see today, which usually indicates good squad cohesion; we just have to keep a high intensity game going.

Is this going to be towed out everytime we have a few good results and a few bad results. Sad & embarrassing in equal measure It will end with the “I told you so” when we eventually do sack him, whether that be next week or in 5 years.

But I don’t think it ever looked bad. They were an anchor for us financially but I don’t think it ever affected the spirit or us on the pitch. Take someone like Ince. Despised on here. MON and Delap can’t speak high enough of him and I don’t think it’s for transfer purposes. THey were training with the u23s so again does that really wash? Not for me. I think new players will inject a freshness and that’s great and their profile helps with that too. Young and with a point to prove. That’s definitely a bonus and a help.

Especially at a time when things are looking good; we probably shouldn't be bringing this threads up. However... I feel it is important to highlight these threads at times like this because you know if we had of started the season with 2 losses and a draw that a thread like this would of arrived. I reccommend for anyone reading this to take the time to look through the profiles of those who criticise the manager and liked posts pushing for his sacking. These individuals are all still online daily and actively browsing the forums and posting on any thread which doesn't relate to any of our recent matches. So I guess as petty as it is. I wanted to highlight that alot of these posters are just miserable bastards that probably get more joy from Stoke losing than they do winning. And if we went on a 30 game win streak you can be assured that they'd only post on game 31 when we lose.

I do understand why people might not to raise their head above the parapet and be accused of a troll or that bollocks. Or for a game tonight not changing your mind of a fucking shit season last time around. Why bother with the hassle after a good win? And it is a hassle. Well let's be honest here. The first half of last season was actually very good. Up untill December when Tyrese got injured. The season before from November onwards when MON signed was also very good and a miracle that we stayed up considering how far behind we were when he took over. Yes the latter half of last season was poor however I think alot of that comes down to the injuries and lack of quality in the squad. A squad mostly made up of players not signed by MON which were rooted to the bottom of the table when he took over. And there were a large majority of posters in this thread who were largely absent from the forums, from a posting perspective, from November 19 till December 20. However at the first sign of a bad streak they quickly came out of the wood work with "4 wins in 15" and similar threads week after week. However despite the poor run of form in the second half of last season. MON has still managed a 40% win ratio since taking over, a figure that no manager this millennium can rival. And that's with utilising a largely over aged bloated squad with little flexibility in terms of signings due to FFP, which was rooted to the bottom of the table and destined for league one when he arrived. So for all of those reasons listed above I feel that it is justified to bump threads such as this. Mainly to oust and highlight that the vast majority of the posters which have these views will never be happy and are so bitter that even when we do perform well and make good signings, they'll make the effort to browse the forums but will refuse to swallow their pride and post any form of praise. Instead hovering in the sidelines ready to snipe at any given opportunity. Or the ones which do post, they will be very calculated with how they post and make backhanded compliments. Rather than praising the work which has went in to offload a load of dead wood and bring in new signings, which have all impressed so far. They will instead make posts along the lines off, "With this squad we should really be challenging for promotion, anything else is a failure. If we aren't in the mix at Christmas then serious questions need to be asked of the managers position". (This isn't a quote of what was said but I've seen posts of this nature from certain members which regular criticize Mon at any given opportunity). So while this members like to shy away and hide in the closet when things are looking well. I personally want to shine the spotlight on them so that other members can see them for what they are.

I don’t think it was. Thought the football was awful and wasn’t enjoying it at all despite the results. Very much get that puts me in a minority but as I’ve said, the way we win matters to me. I was bored shitless. Getting rid of the dead wood has been excellent but made way easier by their contracts being in the final year on the whole. I don’t think it’s backhanded. If you have Powell Fletcher and Campbell, you have lots of goals and you should be competing for the top 6 with that alone. Last season from start to finish was unnecessarily boring.

Yeah but you have to admit that MON walked into a complete shit show, on the pitch and behind the scenes, to say any different is massively under playing the great job he has done so far in stabilising this football club, because make no bones about it, he has done, and is doing a superb job. Just a shame most people couldn't see past the noses on their faces really, which this thread proves. He did and I don’t think anyone has underplayed that. Every single person on this thread (and there are plenty) who were calling for the managers head last season were underplaying the job he had got on. To say that MON has "just matched" what Rowett did is absolute bollocks mate of the highest order. I don't know what it is with you but you have to try and downplay it because you simply cannot, under any circumstances admit that you just might have been wrong about our manager, or anything else for that matter. You have very strong opinions about this football club, and that's great, you're obviously a very passionate Stoke City fan, but it's OK to be wrong every now then you know, nobody can get everything right

Fletcher for Surridge, Collins for Ostigard and Chester or Fox for Wilmot. There were no excuses last season for setting up the way he did and he deserved every ounce of criticism that came his way. Even when we were getting good results last year pre Christmas we were very rarely setting up like that. Post Christmas was a Tyrese Campbell riddled excuse fest. The football we saw last night was a natural progression from MONs first half season in charge, and proved exactly where he went wrong last year. If we're going to be dragging old posts up to rip into posters then let's at least put out the full story hey?

I was pulling Bayern up, for what I believe to be bollocks. Every single person who was calling for our managers head should have been as ashamed of themselves then as they are now, regardless of the football on show, it was short sighted nonsense, that is and always was my opinion. I'm pretty sure if you could sit down with MON he would tell you every single reason why the football wasn't what we all wanted to see, and all the reasons why he didn't set up how you wanted him to. I can't explain it but there would have been reasons behind it, and critiscm of his tactics is fine, but calling for him to be sacked was ridiculous in the extreme and if those people are now having those words rammed back down their throats, I'm good with that

Never understood people that don't give managers a chance. When we do lose this season they will jump on his back. Managers need a few seasons to establish themselves especially at a club outside top 6 of premier. Takes longer to bring in players and do not always get the ones they want because of budget. MON doing a good job, got rid of the rotten apples and got togetherness of squad. I’m right behind him

The players you’ve listed there were not available for large chunks of last season through injury. We were doing fine and right in the mix for the play offs until a ludicrous fixture pile up in December resulted in players dropping like flies. Injuries were the cause of our poor form post Christmas last year, I don’t see how anyone can call that a poor excuse, it’s a clear fact surely?

Impossible to judge MON last season with that mental injury list. Good signings in so far, unwanted players out and no real injury issues and we could have a real decent crack.

The manager last season looked down on himself, in need of a long break and to be honest, completely beaten post Christmas. The awful football mirrored it and him. The Birmingham game on Saturday was a harrowing reminder of that and last night was something to hold onto.

To say that MON has "just matched" what Rowett did is absolute bollocks mate of the highest order. I don't know what it is with you but you have to try and downplay it because you simply cannot, under any circumstances admit that you just might have been wrong about our manager, or anything else for that matter. You have very strong opinions about this football club, and that's great, you're obviously a very passionate Stoke City fan, but it's OK to be wrong every now then you know, nobody can get everything right Swap out Surridge, Ostigard and Wilmot and you have the same side last night that was available to him last year. The difference those two defenders makes is massive and shouldn't be downplayed. They're a level above the men they've replaced and allow us to play in a completely different way. Can you imagine the results of telling Danny Batth to carry the ball out from the back and play the ball into feet? It's not as simple as MON choosing to play defensive football and then suddenly 'seeing the light' and not. It's all to do with the personnel he has available at any one time. I'm not saying he didn't make mistakes last season and there weren't times when things could have been better, but circumstances (very different from 'excuses') dictated how things played out.

I'm not sure what the comparison between MON and the other two managers at their new clubs is all about, it proves nothing, other than its a made up "stat" for you to have a pop. Worse season you've witnessed? Give over mate. It was. It was dreadful. 8 players that started last night were here last season and we didn’t come close to that last night. It’s just shown it was an attitude in approach to the game from the top. Bursik- first full season Smith - generally ridiculed Tymon - generally ridiculed Souttar - first full season Clucas - injured Allen - injured Powell - played whilst injured Brown- generally ridiculed To say “8 players that started last night were here last season”, whilst factually correct, simply doesn’t tell the full story. Some spent the season in the treatment room, whilst others were young, new or have improved their games.
