My recollections of the day are that the whole day was surreal, I am old enough to recall the pain of our 2 semi final defeats to Arsenal in the 70s but I was quite calm up until we were 2-0 up and the memories of those games crept back in, my stress level went up despite events on the pitch. Two unusual events then happened, Jermaine Pennant won the ball and went forward but a bigger shock was to see Kenwyne Jones running forward as though he meant it and pointing out to Pennant where he wanted the ball which he lifted over the keeper 3-0 and absolute pandemonium in the stands. It is just a pity that Andy Wilkinson couldn't sort his feet out, get on the scoresheet when he had the chance and put the icing on the cake. Pennant winning the ball and moving forward wasn't unusual or a shock We were blessed with those two hard working and talented wingers.

Fabulous day it certainly needed no further icing on the cake but we got it by being approached by an Arsenal supporter at the tube station who asked for the score

Don't really get the comment (from a BW fan) that we didn't have to play particularly well to beat them. Every one of those five goals was the result of excellent football and / or was brilliantly executed.

We then took over and destroyed them. Amazing day, much better than the anti climatic Final. We really had a good side, well balanced, strong at the back and a threat going forward. Why he had to change it goodness knows.

Injuries: - Ethers (that Spring probably playing the best football of his career), - Huthy (in a forlorn attempt to get him fit for the final TP flew him to see a specialist in the US), - Higgy and Ric. Four of our top players all out for the final. Unsurprisingly, had the effect of clipping our wings a little.

Talking mainly about the managers mindset and return to type the season after and after that.

I will never forget that day in the sunshine, bloody marvellous.
One of the blokes in front of me spent the whole game facing the Bolton fans and singing insults, he missed every goal and I wonder if he ever regretted that. One of you lads?
