So far Swansea, Birmingham and Rangers have announced boycott of social media including players due to he on going racial abuse and lack of action being done to stop it happening.
This is exactly what is needed and fully expect more clubs to follow, hope Stoke announce the same in due course. It would be a great sign if all Premier League Clubs and EFL carried out the boycott, along with their players.

The more clubs sign up the more likely the social media sites will be more vigilant in monitoring posts and excluding the knobs who post inflammatory messages.

I've been saying this for ages...hit the social media companies where it hurts...reduce their traffic = reduce their revenue = they might start to take action

It's a start and it is to be supported, but the real big hitter would be to boycott games - especially live games. Only then would the message be seriously heard.
A full program of games. Players walk on, shake hands, place a banner against racism in the centre circle for the cameras and walk straight off again. What are the authorities going to do, dock points to all of them? Good, it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference.
If it keeps happening, then keep on boycotting. When TV companies and the big money starts to get affected, then things will start to happen quickly. They aren't bothered about racism. They're bothered about their pockets and their pockets only.

The problem might be getting players on board. A lot of their personal endorsements and sponsorship deals include a requirement for them to have a strong social media presence because that's their main advertising medium these days. Players won't want to lose endorsements and additional income so there might be resistance from some.
And of course young players these days are from generation Z, the social media generation who have grown up always knowing this technology and social media has been around since they were in primary school. They can't remember a time before smart phones and stuff existed so to them social media is an essential communication tool and online extension of their personalities, not just a luxury extra that they could easily get rid off. They see their online existence as an equal to their real world existence so I'd imagine a lot would be very reluctant to get rid of it.

Presume Stoke have been doing this for the last decade?
Ahead of the curve for once.

It's a symbolic gesture but sadly it won't have any impact on the companies in question. The numbers Facebook alone generates are mind-boggling (2.70 billion active users a month as of last year + more than 4 billion video views a day and that's not counting the amount of posts and comments made by users themselves which power the ad revenues). It'd require a global level rejection on a massive scale to have any impact, including all of the big hitters taking part (sports personalities, brands, celebrities etc.). Too many individuals and businesses (from the one-man band to massive corporations) are dependent on social marketing these days that it's unlikely they would ever risk taking the hit.

I fear this will only escalate it. The best thing you could possibly do is ignore it. When it has this much of an effect, people are going to do it more. The reason these people do it in the first place is for the publicity so a player/club posts about them.

That isn’t going to happen And if it did all it would do would leave a few vile no mark keyboard warriors with a smug smile Whilst millions of decent human beings would be denied the game they love

This board though is controlled by admins and although heated discussions happen on here if someone crossed the line I would hope action would be taken. Ultimately that isn't happening on the big social media sites. Any abuse given out is unacceptable regardless if on here on Facebook etc.

I always think you need to 'earn' the right to be really rude to someone! Like it's not okay to insult a complete stranger in the street (or indeed on Social Media) but one of your best mates who you have known for years, well you can be pretty rude to him if you think he's being a dick!

If the Stoke twitter account went I don’t think it’d make any difference for me.
The only thing I might miss is the links to the u23 games.
But other than that it’s pretty pointless.

This just gives trolls more power to fuck things up for their own amusement. I thought that. They’re caving to what I presume is one or two who are more empowered to be racist to a few players after games. It’ll just empower them more thinking they can get rid of stuff they don’t like by being abusive.

So far so good. How far should we show our solidarity and are we willing to start with ourselves?
Should we for instance boycott every Oatcake user who abuses Jacob Brown?

I think social media companies are pretty bad at dealing with this but if they're gonna do it properly they should probably add several numerous media publications in it too.
No point boycotting twitter then speaking to the sun. Have those difficult conversations with your media pals.
