I think social media companies are pretty bad at dealing with this but if they're gonna do it properly they should probably add several numerous media publications in it too. No point boycotting twitter then speaking to the sun. Have those difficult conversations with your media pals. To me, it seems like a largely impossible thing to stop. You can ban people who are stupid enough to do it through a main account, but it’s not hard at all to make a fake one. A lot of the posts that Matondo seemingly was sent were from people with say 4 followers. You can make an acct. with a random phone (can be store bought) and an email acct set up for that purpose. The amount of traffic that goes through these sites is enormous, I would be amazed if many fines/arrests ever occur because no one has the resources to do it.

I’m sure the social media companies couldn’t give a flying fig if a few football clubs have a week off, It’s the proverbial drop in the ocean.

I often wonder why public personalities expose themselves to social media. The abuse will never stop - trolls reproduce/re-spawn like rabbits. Must be my built-in bias due to coming from a generation that realizes there is a world separate from social-media. You CAN get off it and survive.

I don't think they're doing it for the social media companies are they? I haven't read into it much but surely it's purely for fanbases to notice a difference?
