Not sure if this great Italian staple has its own thread so I thought I would give it a slice of the action (ill get my coat)
Who is a fan?
I've made my own before they were ok ish. I'm not a massive fan of supermarket pizza.
I used a company recently who were called Wildfire Pizza. They have vans set up one comes to Alsager on a wed 5-9pm. They are the best. Just taste so nice because they are done in the proper fire ovens.
Which takeaway pizza does everyone prefer. For me Papa Johns beats Dominos (have to get a deal or they are expensive) or Kebab Shop pizza.
Don't rate Pizza Hut
I'm the weird one as well that likes Anchovies on pizza.
Discuss

Discuss I’m having a pizza for tea tonight, a Lidl meaty spicy one. They’re ok when you can’t be arsed to cook. Normally order from Domino’s but would like to find somewhere with a more authentic feel. I love anchovies on pizzas too🤤 On the rare occasions I can be arsed with the hassle of making one from scratch I put either chilli or garlic sauce on the base and oregano on the top.

Best pizzas in Manchester in my experience are Rudy's, their spicy hot Calbrese is bang on the money. Bit behind the times in Staffordshire but I'm partial to a visit to Pasta di Piazza when we're out with the parents/in laws. In terms of all the big chains I would put Dominos at the bottom by far, I think they're absolutely rank. Papa Johns is probably the best of a relatively mediocre bunch. I'm not a huge fan of Pizza Express but to be fair if you have young kids like I do it can be a Godsend when you're out in town, especially if you have one of their discount vouchers. And to add if you like pineapple on pizza we're probably going to fall out

If I catch someone using a knife and Fork to eat pizza well you have problems 😉 Papa John's have better sides aswell

If there was a place that could replicate the thin crispy pizza de mare I had in the small village outside Cagliari in Sardinia I'd handcuff myself to it, gorgeous. Second best was an Italian restaurant in Bedford and that's down to the post war Italian community. Ice cream was bloody good as well.

Their selection of pizzas is superb and they are all freshly prepared. They used to have good deals in the daytime.

Pizza in Italy is clearly not shabby but best we've ever had was in New York, proper family run Italian restaurants and pizza and pasta like I've never tasted

I have a pizza every week, the Mrs makes the dough in the bread maker, we roll it out and do whatever toppings we like, they are excellent. haven't bought a shop pizza for years.
Before all this covid shit happened I was a regular in Italy with work, Bologna and Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto areas (provinces west to east towards Udine/Treviso) , had some cracking pizzas in local restaurants in little towns like Piove Di Sacco, Montegreto Therme, Latisana, they do know how to make them, the restaurants always seem to be full even on an a week night

I'm not averse to a supermarket pizza at all, in fact often I find that a mid-range one beats a high-end one.
Other than that, Papa John's > Pizza Hut > Dominos. The main thing about them though is that they're so cheap to make yet the mark-up is insane, way too expensive for what you get, particularly Pizza Hut.
Always avoid Kebab House pizzas, too doughy and I keep finding pubes in them.

Brilliant thread! As with so much else, like good coffee shops, the best places are always local and independent; definitely not chains, particularly big ones and especially not big American ones! Just opened up two minutes walk from me is a place called Pala Pizza Shop - and it is outstanding. I'm a big fan of their pizza slices which uses focaccia as a base and comes with some brilliant combinations eg... Pepperoni, honey, chilli, basil; Italian ham, pineapple, jalapeños; Porchetta, shaved fennel, scamorza cheese, chives and, last but certainly not least, Gorgonzola, roasted pear, walnut, honey. I really like places that offer something different and not something you could knock together at home. If you're ever in Glasgow - check it out. You'll not be disappointed.

Probably also need to allow a bit more than 15 minutes for delivery.

Not sure when you were last here, but that part of Sauchiehall St was, pre-COVID, becoming the place to go in Glasgow for live music bars - sort of an Austin 6th Street. My son, aged 20, and his pals spent their weekends there. Obviously a bit quiet now - sadly. Finnieston, where I now stay, and is home to the SEC (and Hydro and Armadillo) is more of a hipster place... cafes, posh restaurants and takeaways, arty farty boutiques and loads of bloody barber shops.

I can always eat a Large Papa John's or Dominos in one sitting.
My local Kebab house do a "16" inch pizza noymt sure I could finish that may have to save some.
Best Pizza I had was a little place in Rome delicious.
