With Odisha, who play in the Indian Premier League. He was the manager, until his post match interview.
If you're wondering what for, it's for a post match analogy I've never seen before, and I don't think I'll ever see it again. What on earth was going through his head to say something like this?
"Baxter, a British former player and well-travelled coach whose previous job was with South Africa’s national team, made his remarks after Monday’s defeat by Jamshedpur. "
“You need decisions to go your way and they didn’t,” the 67-year-old said in an interview on Indian’s Star Sports television. “I don’t know when we’re going to get a penalty. I think one of my players would have to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to get a penalty.”
Absolutely crazy. Twitter has a bit of a split going on between should he have been sacked or heavily fined and disciplined.

It's an idiotic thing to say, and it may also have something to do with a fairly significant MeToo movement that has been building in India over the last few years, since a lot of sexual offences and abuse against women has gone unpunished.

I don't condone what he has said yet I have said far worse on here - will I be banned soon?

Freedom of speech is like the Queen: it's incredibly powerful as long as you don't use that power Pointless to mention freedom of speech, which isn't necessarily guaranteed in India under its own constitution: The constitution of India allows the government to limit freedom of expression "in the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, defamation or incitement to an offence."

Well they are certainly exercising that right at the moment, they have cut all mobile and internet connections of millions of people in the states of Haryana and Punjab for 2 weeks because of a protest by farmers.

Astounding he thought he could say this, indefensible. Trivialising rape of all things. He wasn’t doing that though was he. He was literally referencing the most heinous crime he could think of to make a point - that’s the opposite of trivialising something. Poor taste and you can’t do it, for sure, but he wasn’t “trivialising rape”.

Stupid thing to say but I feel the sacking is disproportionate. His team are rock bottom of the league which I cynically suspect has contributed to this decision. This will go down as misconduct so no payout. I wonder if they would’ve sacked him if the team was top?

Poor taste and you can’t do it, for sure, but he wasn’t “trivialising rape”. That's a reasonable point. Do you think the outcome would have been the same if he had used the word 'murder' instead of 'rape'? Since murder is worse than rape I assume the authorities would have sacked him even faster. But, although the act of murder is worse than the act of rape perhaps the spoken word 'rape' is worse than the spoken word 'murder' when used in this context? My opinion is that he would have got away with 'murder'.

Just a tongue n cheek reply to a question, could of said “ we wouldn’t get a penalty if one of my players got shot “ but he didn’t..!!!.. Bad thing to say but at the end of the day he doesn’t have a history of bad comments and I think it’s the fact that they are bottom of the league, they were waiting for him to fuck up, now they sack him and no pay off..!!! All about money..!!!!

In this day and age you really have to think before you speak.
Saying that I don't think he should be sacked. He should make a hefty charitable donation to any rape victim causes and go on an awareness course of some type.

My opinion is that he would have got away with 'murder'. I appreciate I'm bringing the mood down here but a family friend was violently raped in her early 20's and it absolutely traumatised her for the rest of her life, she eventually committed suicide several years later. For her, she would have preferred to have been killed there and then, she couldn't cope with the shame of what happened, and the fact that the person in question was never brought to justice. I think the fact that he said it in India as well where this is issue is high on the agenda (it was recently voted the unsafest place outside of Syria and Afghanistan to be a woman mainly because of the threat of rape) just adds to the insensitivity.......

When you type on here, you're not representing a company are you?
A football manager is. It's sod all to do with freedom of speech. The vast majority of companies in this country would discipline you for saying that if they found out
