It’s to do with the write off of a players purchase fee against the contract. If we buy someone for £10m on a 5 year contract they are written down or amortised at £2m a year. So if after year one the player is a failure and we sold for £5m we’d record a £3m loss (10-2-5). If that same player is loaned, there is no loss to record with regards to FFP rules. If that makes sense Edit. Just seen the link now explaining fully Ta mate....hope you well? All good thanks. Hope you are too

It's always easy to be wise in hindsight and I don't recall many people on here complaining about these signings at the time. There may have been some complaints about Wimmer but that was more due to us not needing another CB than the player himself. I take the OP's point on due diligence but it is not always easy to determine how a particular player will react to a hypothetical situation in the future. There will always be an element of risk with any transfer and I suspect other clubs make mistakes as well. Sorry mate if the surface had even been scratched on some of these wasters we would not have signed them Berahino the obvious one of course, Imbula was known for his appalling attitude, Wimmer was a balls up ready and waiting, there is no way these failures were subject to proper due diligence, all transfers are a risk of course they are however the vast majority of ours have failed there has to be a reason for that it can not all be down to bad luck.

Cutting our possible losses im sure , reduce our contracts on the players Mon doesn't wAnt by loaning them out ,reduce the wages we have to pay ,more to spend ,obvious. Loan players instead of sign, see if they are what we need, no cost ,obvious. If we dont go up we are not lumbered with unsuccessful championship players as we can return them.but if we do go up we are further along in finding the better players for the premier team we need . The team that takes us up will not be the team we start the first premiership season with.cutting our losses by loaning players. A good place to be really

When a club of our size has 6-7 consecutive bad transfer windows there is no quick fix, it takes years to recover from it. We are still feeling the financial strain of signings from Hughes's tenure and there's nothing we can do about it. Some players on that list don't seem to be motivated by the desire to play football which makes the situation even harder, we are faced with the decision of loaning them out for free and hoping they knuckle down and secure a permanent move or let them clock up more minutes for the under 23's at the expense of youngsters who may actually have a future at the club.
Karlsruher aren't going to sign Kevin Wimmer permanently, he's going to play a handful of games show no desire whatsoever and then end up on the bench before eventually returning to us. Realistically I'm not sure we'll get a substantial fee for many of those loaned out players, some of them will continue to burn a hole in our club until they leave and hopefully we'll learn from it and our recruitment will be better in the future. I'm just glad the likes of Wimmer aren't going to be anywhere near the club for the next few months and we can concentrate on the players who actually want to take us forward.

The problem with that is non of the loan signings we currently have will sign for us, we have players who should be gone in the summer due to age and fitness issues Fletcher, Mikel, Shawcross and Chester, we could well end up selling our better players Collins and Souttar and be left the poor players we already have who no one wants and the return of a team full of wasters from loan spells.

I wish I could find that post from last season where somebody with a bit of a financial background said it’s more viable to loan a player than to sell them due to decreasing transfer value Anybody? Players are written off over the length of their contract. For example we have a player with 2 years left on his contract. He is valued on our books at £5 million. If we sell him this year for less than £5 million, we book a loss. On the other hand, if we loan him out for a year then at the end of his loan he will only be valued on our books at £2.5 million and if we can sell him for £2.5 million then we have broken even. If we can't sell him and send him out on loan for another year then his contract will be up at the end of the loan and his value will be nil. So we break even again as regards FFP.

Painful reading all the condemnations of our past dealings in the transfer market. The market for footballers has collapsed due to Covid. What is more important is how we get through next season without incurring a 12 point deduction.By the end of next season most of the expensive player's contracts will be up and we can start to restructure our playing staff. With a bit of luck we will be one of the few clubs able to afford to buy players and good players will be less expensive.

When you consider the number of players that we will be dumping this year and next, and the number of other clubs with no income who will also be dumping players they can't afford, There are going to be a lot of unemployed footballers.

But also means they’ll be a load of players available to sign on a free. I’ve skimmed through 3 pages and now I’m ashamed I’ve now ended up responding thus propping it up the board. So In response to the OP, the title of this thread and to try and give the thread the thought and respect it warrants..... Change our name? ....No.
