www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-giannelli-imbula-celtic-transfer-4930871I know I'm probably one of only a few fans of G. here, but I can't but take note that his downfall and ours have happened almost simultaneously. While I believe we have recovered, he seemingly continues his path, much of what's happened has been self-inflicted, but even he has been victim of the way Covid has changed the game. I just wonder sometimes if both he and we would have been way better off, had we done more to integrate him instead of pushing him out and isolating him. He was a fantastic player on his day.

If I applied and succeeded in getting a job in another country, I'd make the effort to learn the language so I could chat to my colleagues and my manager and other senior staff - even if I didn't actually need to become fluent in the language for my job. This, apparently, was beyond Imbula so I doubt if there was much we could have done to get him integrated into the squad, the club and the city.

Yup just you... ... actually can understand a little in that he was a very talented player however he absolutely had zero professionalism, application e t.c. Bielsa got a tune out of him at Marseille but he's on record as saying Imbula would fail. Utter waste of talent, entirely down to him as evidenced by his fault at multiple clubs. Hughes should never be allowed near a cheque book again

Shay Given bore a grudge against him and had happy listeners in the local and national media. I've heard English words come out of Imbula's mouth in one of his interviews. By no means a fluent speaker, but not as bad as he's been made out. I've had work colleagues who never mind what never said Good morning. They didn't get sacked for that reason.

If you read the article it shows that wherever he goes he doesn't apply himself or attempt to integrate himself into the team in any serious way. The problem lies front and centre with Imbulla and him alone. He has failed too many times for it to be anything else.

But he's only, what 26-27? It could still happen, though I doubt very much that Celtic will the one.

Heās either too lazy, too stupid, too arrogant or some combination thereof. Learning most foreign languages is not that difficult, especially English. Besides, i have travelled widely and most people I run into speak English to some degree or another because they are exposed to it all the time, through work, TV, movies, music, social media etc. I think the real problem is a lack of motivation or interest in the game. Heās obviously very good at playing football, but I suspect he just doesnāt like playing it. So easy money may the only reason he does it. He must be miserable. Well off, but very miserable.

We'vce had plenty of players I've thought were shite. We've had quite a few players I haven't liked. We've only had one player I have wanted to punch in the mouth while he was actually playing for us.
I'm pretty sure I've put more effort into typing this than Imbula put into the cup game against Wolves.

Were you at that pre season friendly when he subbed himself off then sat at the side of the pitch like a spoilt brat, Hughes didn't attempt to deal with him the coward.

He was being compared to Hudson when he made his entrance. Imbula was clearly a very talented player, it was the wrong move for him and Stoke at the time, and ultimately a disastrous transfer for us. He still has time to have a successful career. Iāll always wonder about how he was integrated at Stoke though and what the club did to help him, when you invest that much in a player youāve got to make sure they are in a good place mentally. It seems someone seriously misjudged his motivation and character, you have to question the interview process as itās not the first time itās happened, Iād love to know the full details of our recruitment process. I get the impression that under Hughes the only interview was a physical one, clearly missed the team and HR interview side of things!

He could indeed speak ok english but chose not to. Shays dislike to him was shared by the players and staff alike. Absolutely no homework done on this guy before MH spunked 18 million on him. 1 day of looking into his past and attitude etc would have saved us a small fortune.
