This guy couldn't beat an egg. He is miles away from this level of football. How on earth anyone paid multi millions for him just beggars belief. So watch now for us paying £9M to keep him to put on the shelf with our other host of total wastes of money. Joke management. £9M for Vokes suddenly seems half reasonable🤣! Just shows you how elite leagues are so completely out of touch with the rest of the leagues. You can’t judge a player on a price tag anymore

In every game we've played he's had two men on him. One facing him up and the other one a few yards off. It's a complement to his pace, but ultimately it's highlighting his lack of variation in his game and experience in not being able to deal with it.
If we have no genuine intention of signing him, we might aswell send him back and use Norton at the end of games.

He's young and probably low on confidence and in that respect I feel for the lad but he's not some wet behind the ears on tuppence ha'penny to take a chance on, he's on decent money so there's zero chance of this loan becoming permanent. Sooner he returns to Shalke the better for all concerned..... I agree but I also have to ask why we have not given him U23 games when Wright Phillips who seems a much more cocky, confident lad of a similar age seems to be confined there for this season at least.

Is he one of these lads that’s never been coached because he’s always been quick enough to just run everyone? He looks genuinely dreadful and, truthfully, not even that quick. He’s got so much work to do if he’s going to make it at any sort of level.

I’ve never seen him beat the first one though. 3-4 times today he just pootled towards the full back who effortlessly took it off him. The one time he got past him he shanked his cross out of play.

...and just remind me how much did Schalke pay for him? £11 million. Try and stifle your laughter if you can. How Vokesing much?

www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jan/28/manchester-city-rabbi-matondo-schalke-12mManchester City are relaxed about potentially losing a third young player of potential in two years, with Rabbi Matondo expected to move to Schalke for around £12m. ...the club are thought to be privately delighted with the fee agreed with Schalke. Although Matondo is considered a prospect, coaches at City do not rate him in the same bracket as Díaz or Sancho Kind of looks like Man City were surprised that anyone was prepared to put £12m down and basically made no attempt to keep him. That said, it's still a surprise just how short of the standard he looks over 2 years and 50 senior games on. Is there any difference between him and Marc Goodfellow?

A decent side would utilise the space this leaves elsewhere....

One thing confusing me is I thought he wasn't great, but law of averages you think he'd have managed beat a defender today.
What confused me was that the players around him always gave him the ball, they were giving it him even if there were better options, even their defenders seemed to back off him straight away... Both the above don't happen with say James maclean.
So is he wank? Do the team around him not realise he is wank or do the team realise although he is wank they are even worse at beating a man....
The end of season investigation into who is and isn't wank and why is going to take ages.

He’s like a dog chasing a ballon , Man City must of pissed themselves with that fee , he makes wimmer look like Bobby Moore in his heyday

He's been mentioned in the same breath as some absolute ballers.
Jesus, he's rubbish. I've not seen a player so consistently fail to beat his man, since god-knows-when. Utter tripe.
As someone's mentioned, has he just been one of those head-down, pure pace, players who's not needed much more at the level he's been at?
Another complete waste of a loan. If this lad makes it to the top, or anywhere near, I'll bare my arse in Burton's window.

I got pelters on Twitter for pointing out how bad Matondo was after I'd watched him twice.
You could see it a mile off though. It's been a long time since I've seen a player look so far out of his depth.
Everyone finds their true level eventually, and I'm sure he'll end up forging a career in a division far higher than any of us have ever played in, but if he hadn't been picked up by Man City at a young age and had that name on his CV, I do wonder where he'd be playing right now. I reckon National League North/South might be about his level, where he'll be able to just outstrip a few players for pace.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing too. He doesn't look like he's got any variation in his play once he's sussed out he can't knock it and run because of the covering defender, so like you say, nervously trots up to the first defender, doesn't know what he wants to do and loses it. Teams seem to have worked him out already. I'm baffled as to how he got to Man City and ended up at Schalke based on what we have seen.

Wanted him to do well but he's just not good enough. Hard to think where his career goes from here.
His option to buy fee needs to be spend elsewhere.

I’m back playing football tonight, I’m now carrying lockdown fat, aching and the only thing I’m capable of beating is my own penis, however I reckon I’d influence a game more than Matondo has in his entire time here so far.

He looked much better on the left side for Wales against Mexico.
Then again, so was Brek Shea against Mexico's fullbacks, and we know how good he turned out to be.

He’s young, he has potential A bit concerned that he was sent home from international duty A few players released from the club have proved their worth elsewhere Choupo Moting, Joselu, Zouma, Bruno, Pieters ... Just hope that he is responding to players with the best professional outlook on the game
