Still don't get it considering the other "old" options.

Still don't get it considering the other "old" options. Easy enough I think. Same as the Gregory / Vokes thing: no one wanted to pay money (wages) for Vokes.

Still don't get it considering the other "old" options. The other "old" options aren't the highest earners at the club and unfortunately struggling with niggly injuries......

Still Chester's deal is up at the end of this, Batth's fee to recoup will be reduced. If Shawcross was happy to take a wage drop (which if he moves to the MLS suggests he would be) then it's a no brainer who you keep imo.

It expires at the end of this season though and if he's going to the MLS on reduced terms you'd hope he'd sign here on far more accpetable terms.

I read on here (so it could have been a lie ) that their designated player spots had been taken so he'd be on at most 5k/week.

If it's true that his contract states that he automatically matches the top earner at the club we'll save about £800k in wages if he leaves now, that's not to be sniffed at......

MatÃas Pellegrini Rodolfo Pizarro Gonzalo HiguaÃn
Unless any of these are going in 2021 season then the 3 DP spots are taken.

I can't see him taking such a pay cut if not. Edited. Or maybe not given the reply above!

And I'm sure we'll give him something by way of compensation

"The Maximum Salary Budget Charge for a single player is $612,500"
Which is £443450.15 and that's roughly 8.5k/week.
So that's the absolute most he could if there's room in their budget for it bar being a designated player.

Easy enough I think. Same as the Gregory / Vokes thing: no one wanted to pay money (wages) for Vokes. In fairness to Bayern, isn’t your quote the opposite to your point? Surely Shawcross is on more than Batth and Chester? Eh? And I am not quoting anyone either? But yes, he almost certainly is yes. So surely the club see it as: - it saves a significant wedge in these febrile FFP times - MoN probably doesn't see it quite as sentimentally as some on here and may well have made his mind up on his usefulness going fwd having seen him in training. - ano club actually want him & also provide an obvious incentive for Ryan to go. idk, but surely Ryan must see it as: - a great opportunity that probably won't come around again - (despite the reality) a move that can be seen as at least a sideways one and certainly an 'expected' one for good pro's winding down (see Beckham, Gerrard Rooney etc). And the point stands: quite obviously, no one wanted DB or JC so there was no decision to make. If / when he goes, I for one, wish him well. EDIT: and for the record, I am never fair to Bayern

Still don't get it considering the other "old" options. Including your follow up post about contracts below, I agree. I don't think that there is a good footballing reason for why he isn't in our first XI, especially if Collins continues to be our best option at right back. I can only think it's because Ryan has said quite a few times that he wants to finish his career abroad.

Probably wants to go due to the quality of life for him and his family. All year round sun, good for his back. Is his son not a half decent footballer? I would say if he is he will get more of a chance in the US, much like Jack Harrison.

Still don't get it considering the other "old" options. I think ultimately we have to accept that he's miles away from being how he wants to be himself. O'Neill rushed him back because we were desperate for a result a couple of times last season and it beggars belief that a fully fit Shawcross is surplus to requirements. The fact that Ryan is seemingly happy to leave and O'Neill is happy for him to leave suggests that both know his fitness isn't at a level both feel it needs to be despite the comments at various points of this season and last. I'll be gutted to see him leave but if Ryan wants to go I suspect it's because he himself knows that he can't get back to the level he expects of himself. What a player he has been for us. Absolutely outstanding and at one point he was easily the best English centre half in the country.

A very good move for him, a chance to sample a new life in a lesser league in the twilight of his career. There are the odd muppets on here who have tried to belittle the massive contribution that Ryan has made to the development of Stoke as a football club since we signed him but the vast majority recognise what a colossus he has been at this club and the legendary status he has deservedly earned. A sad day if he goes but he goes with the blessing of all true Stoke fans.

Sadly a testimonial isn't on the cards for Ryan, albeit richly deserved. If this proposed move to Miami is something that he wants to do, then the club MUST do all they can to make it happen for him, it's the very least he deserves
He will go with the best wishes of every Stoke fan, old and young, for his fantastic loyal service to our club.

His son is only around 10 Ye I know he is only young, but had it in my mind he has had academies looking to take him on. I may be wrong, however when he was very young I remember him walking around the pitch end of season and he was doing keepy ups and looked a natural.

He’s in the top 10 of all time appearance makers isn’t he?
Our player of the 2000s so far that’s for sure.
