I don't think Tottenham were very good, just a little bit better than us. Although it's small comfort the reason that Spurs struggled was down to our way of playing, which for us was ineffective but it also made them ineffective, until a tactical mastermind made some useful subs. When the score was 1-1 with 20 mins to go, which is not bad. The final scoreline was deserved though.

We only took a 2 goal loss to a team that sits 6th in the PL and has thrashed Manure and Southampton this season. A team who played their real players against us. We have a major portion of our starting 11 out right now. Our lineup costs what, the equivalent of what Spurs spends on sports drinks for a fixture? This could EASILY have been a 7-1 embarrassment.
Yes we looked intimidated the 1st half, yes we made mistakes (Not nearly as many as I feared) yes we were slower than them, but their kind of money buys speed. But FFS - some are slinging their toys out of the pram over this? Then you'll be suicidal when someone in the Championship cleans our clock. I mean...come on!

Having a good game? He wasn’t the only one that applies to though. What did he do that made him look like he had a good game. From my pov he was the one who ruined it with his constant passing backwards. He's supoosed to be the free man available to launch a new attack, not the free ticket to the back three, who then ended up passing back to Lonerghan. That's the perfect way to kill your own attacks.

Without reading all the other posts, I felt we were incredibly nervous in the first half and it was a good job Spurs were terrible. 2nd half we did what I expected us to do and at one point I thought we were in the ascendancy until that killer second goal. We really should believe in ourselves more, there’s teams in our division near the top who are no better than we are man for man. I’m hoping, having given Spurs a bit of a spook will auger well for the second half of the season. I see no reason, with some progressive management why we can’t be in the mix this season. Just need to believe in themselves!! BTW, anyone know how Fox is? Need him back pronto. Having said that we improved tenfold when Fletch came on but that should have been the sub regardless of injury.

Was a shame our strikers didn't put one of those headed chances away it'd be a fairer reflection of the game to be 2-3 rather than 1-3. It was closer than the post game sky spurs wankfest and Tottenham fans are trying to make out. We did well with our fifth choice keeper and ultimately 2/3rds of the reserves against what was practically a full strength Tottenham team tonight. Frustrating that we keep making stupid errors which are entirely avoidable but given the relative quality of the players I suppose its more likely that we'll do that these days.

Excellent? Are you stoned or pissed? That was a shambles the only player to take any credit was cousins. We rolled over and had our belly tickled didn't give them any troubles one bit. Don't mind going out with a fight but that performance tonight with the sunday league mistakes was unacceptable. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

I don't know what to think really.Having watched Brentford against Newcastle, who are admittedly much poorer than Spurs, they seemed so much better across the park....quicker with more quality and that result wasn't really a surprise . We just seemed aimless, too far apart and too much hoof.......but we comfortably beat the Bees.Go figure. We have too many journeymen players, and don’t have enough flair in the squad, but under MON our team is greater than the sum of its parts. We often now beat teams with better footballers than us, and Brentford I would say are one of them. We won’t be able to deal with that properly until the non playing mercenaries and FFP situation is sorted out.

His job was (as it always is) to shield the defence and break up the play, and he was excellent at that. He knocked them off their rhythm, wound up Dele Alli, closed down the space in the final third and fought for everything.

First half we were abysmal, I don’t care who we were playing that was just embarrassing the way we literally failed to string three passes together.
Second half was much more like it but you still felt that Spurs could have moved up a couple of years if they needed to.
Thought Souttar really struggled tonight, hopefully it’ll be a big learning curve for him.

Mistakes cost us dearly tonight, however, that’s how young players will learn. They got punished but time by mistakes you can get away with at championship level. We found out ourselves from the Prem days how harsh mistakes can be.
My only disappointments was how poor we were with the ball. The only time we got it down and believed in ourselves we scored! Also set pieces were atrocious. They had me virtually kicking the tv

I think when you can’t compete on speed, skill, talent and overall skill with a team - the one thing you can have is a tactical approach and a well instructed group of players to administer that. Was it pretty to watch - fuck no.
We let them tippy tappy it for the whole first half, and made them try and prove, they exerted the effort and all they got was a fairly slack goal by HT.
Second half we started with intensity and purpose to attack, we got a goal back. The onus was back on them, they managed to get 2 more, oh well.
Did we get thumped - hells no.
Considering the cup is the least of our worries and priority is we want to try and keep ourselves in the runnings of the league, time of year, everyone injured, no ability to buy in Jan - those players proved themselves worthy of wearing a stoke shirt. (Unlike quite a few of our supporters- ok, ok, that’s it. I’m not gonna go there)
Well done lads, with more time, encouragement and a bit of support we have some good positives happening to our team and are looking up the table rather than down.

We actually had them worried for a short spell after we equalised but backing off for that second goal was poor even though it was a very good shot. Then Collins played a unnecessary ball to Thompson and he ultimately made a hash of controlling it,which was duly punished by an excellent finish. Very disappointing first half but certainly better second. Spurs were robbed of a perfectly good goal which wasn't offside and but for 2 or 3 good saves from Lonergan it could have looked a lot worse. Bit harsh on Collins,he played a good ball to Thompson who fell asleep. With Vokes and Fletcher on Collins should have been lumping it.

Wasn’t excellent.
Was perfectly ok though.
Again another first half of too much respect.
Second half was good.
A lot better than expected.

Did someone actually say they thought TOB had a good game. I realise we played a top team tonight and had a few out, but his first half performance was embarrassing. He got nowhere near the ball and looked like a rabbit caught in headlights.

I only saw the second half as I was at work for the first but thought he looked good from what I saw but mainly in his off the ball runs in behind their lb position which helped us get up the pitch. There's definitely a player in there waiting to come out.

I'm happy with our efforts tonight and there were some real positives. Certain players did really highlight how bad they are though in ways that don't get exposed in the Championship. Batth, Mclean, Smith and to a lesser extent Thompson and Brown were really poor and appeared terrified of the ball. I assume you didn't mention Oakley Boothe because you hadn't noticed he was playing?

As things stand he doesn't seem to be arsed to win a challenge, take on a man, he looks like he could easily, so I don't know why he doesn't just try it, why he doesn't just try to make that step up. I'd get a psychologist in for this lad

I also think if we'd had a fully fit Campbell and Mikkel going into that side today, with fully fit Powell and Fletcher, that would have been a 50-50 game

Don't mind going out with a fight but that performance tonight with the sunday league mistakes was unacceptable. I can only say what a totally unrealistic set of expectations you had out of tonight's game! Our game plan was quite obvious from the start and I thought quite understandable. Realistically our best chance of progress to the semi-finals was to keep a clean sheet and try to win on penalties. This plan became void when Spurs one hundred million player scored with a clever/lucky header. We did well to keep this score line till half time to keep us in the game. It was with great credit that we fought our way back into the game and equalised. It was a great shot that got Spurs back into the game. We were punished severely for a control error when they got their third. Not for one minute did I think we were a shambles! When are idiots like yourself going to be a bit more realistic about where we are at present as regards our injury list, our fixture pressures, the financial fair play rules and the actual players who are having to compete with!
