The thread title almost sounds like Mike Dean has accomplished what he set out to do. Most good officials in any sport strive so that you DON'T notice them during the contest. Not making it so that the attention in the contest centers on them. This guy, (Maybe it's just me) but every time I see him officiate, seems to go out of his way TO BE noticed like some sort of attention-seeking git. Seems to have a certain way of moving about like he's on a stage or something. Maybe he just "lives for the dance."

I remember a game about ten years back, canât remember who it was against.. heâd just given a yellow to an opposing player for a bad foul, and the Boothen End were giving it the usual âif he played for Stoke, youâd send him offâ. Dean turned to face the Boothen, took a few steps forwards and shook his finger in a really exaggerated way as if to say âno lads, I wouldnâtâ. I mean, which other ref have you ever seen interact with the crowd in such a way?
The pitch is definitely his stage.

Thought he came across well in that interview. Interesting to hear him say he would have technically broke the FA rules regarding Aguero though. đ€Ł

Interesting to hear him say he would have technically broke the FA rules regarding Aguero though. đ€Ł Itâs easy to say it when it hasnât happened though. I think heâs an arse who has a massive ego. Referees should be anonymous until thereâs a decision to be made, then they should do it with minimal drama. Dean is the opposite.

I always refer to him a Mike-look at me-Dean. Not as corrupt as Atkinson, Styles etc, but still a twat and one of the reasons why we have VAR.

Who remembers Clive, The Book, Thomas ? Was it 70/80s ?
He was probably the first of his type.

Who remembers Clive, The Book, Thomas ? Was it 70/80s ? He was probably the first of his type. At 1978 World Cup, in a game between Brazil and Sweden, he infamously blew the final whistle for full time when the ball was in the air from a corner kick, Zico scored moments later, which would have given Brazil a 2-1 win.

I donât think he ever Refereed Internationally after that incident. He was the instigator of the booking trend that we today take for granted.

Remember there was a club PA announcer who got disciplined once coz as the players were coming out the tunnel for the 2nd half, the announcer said "And let's welcome the players back out for the 2nd half of the Uriah Rennie' show! Think it was Preston North End it happened at.
