One of my oldest memories - was 9 - me and my Grandad Ray had STs in the Butler Street seats (block C row 2!), it was a mad day!
Andy Gray was sent off for a nasty foul then a load of dissent wasnt he? 2 pens for Stoke
Have some vivid memories of games back then
- Drawing 2-2 with Liverpool, big Bren getting a last min equaliser - Drawing 1-1 with Liverpool, Mickey Thomas with a specco - Luton 4-4 is a barmy game! - A mad midweek League Cup game vs Man City where both sides had about 12 penalties at the end, think Mancs won 9-8 or something? My parents getting cross at my Grandad as didnt get home until nearly 11 on a schoolnight :-) - Can remember Denis Smith getting carried from the pitch on fans shoulders in his last game - Big Dave Watson getting a heroes reception when he retired - Alan Hudson coming back for one last season - my Grandad revered him - Seeing Mark Chamberlain rip defenders new ones!
Colours wise at 9 I used to have a scarf round my neck and one tied to my wrist lol - remember those day!
There was a time away fans used to be in the Butler St terrace, a few times they would jump up and spit into the seats - saying they were mainly older folk in Butler St it wasnt pleasant!

I remember the Man City cup game as it was 2 legs. I went the first one at Main Road. We lost 2-0. Not sure but I think it was 2-0 still with 10 minutes or so to go in the second leg and we pulled it back to 2-2. Always remember going on holiday that year and got talking to a Man City fan who went the second leg. Said they were all laughing as they couldn’t believe how bonkers we all went when we equalised. Never really had that much to celebrate I guess. Not in my 50 years of following the Mighty Potters anyway ! 😂

Random looking for other non related photos on the Flickr website, and fair kudos indeed to Jim Wall who posted a load of pics from Stoke V Wolves 1984. As he says in the info found lurking in a box of negatives. I dont wish to steal his thunder or suchlike but they are absolute belters in quality from the game that we won 4-0 ...and yes a little bit of old Stokie aggro on one! The kids pressed up against the fence atre bit haunting now.

These pics are quality, well done you. Keep them coming. Me and my mates were all around 14-16 back then and probably about 20 of us used to go together. I’ve already seen 3 of them on one of the pics. Good stuff.

Is it Sammy Mac? Yes mate, the 3 Stoke players on view in that pic are Sammy Mac, Alan Hudson and Robbie James. Saturday April 14th 1984. Stoke 2-0 Liverpool. Ian Painter and on loan Colin Russell. Alan Hudson rolled back the years that day, although as a 14 year old at the time I was too young to see his first spell at Stoke.

For a number of reasons this will always be one of my favourite home games. Sun was out , we needed to win to stay up and if Wolves lost they were certainly going down . Great atmosphere, four goals and overhead Kick from Maguire- strange attendance of about 18,500 if I remember , but the Boothen and Paddocks were rammed. Those photos confirmed it . Smaller then usual Wolves following but I think they were demoralised

My sister’s wedding day down in Surrey. The old man kept sending me out to the car at the reception to check the score on the radio. I think we spent the last 15/20 minutes in the car together waiting for the final score. My Mum went mental. A great day all round and my first ten pinter as a fresh faced 17 year old. Sick as a dog... :-)

I remember Souness moaning about time wasting as we kept passing it back for the last 10 mins. Big Bren blew him a kiss after one back pass.

Didnt Souness put a dressing room window in after the game. Yes he did. The club were asked if they wanted to press charges but declined. Should have charged the prick. Always remember them being really dirty last 10 minutes or so as it became increasingly obvious they weren’t going to get back into it. Always hated Liverpool.
