I turned on at the beginning of the first half and found out we had Andy Gunn in goal. Anyone know how he got on?

my biggest problem with mr Johnson is,he’s to fcukg impartial, and irritating while he’s commentating,i can never tell, who’s scored, i have to wait a few seconds, to find out, he will say, oh that’s the first goal of the game, oh thats an excellent goal, oh its in the back of the net, oh dear its in off the post, we need someone commentating, with lots of enthusiasm for stoke, especially since we cannot go and watch the game live,i know he is a bit of a legend, but now surely its time for his pipe and slippers, and give a younger up and coming enthusiastic commentator a chance. Get off of his back,he's Stoke through and through. He's the last of an era and we should hold him in esteem. He's ours, we look after ours and your complaints are purile compared to his greatness. Keep going Nige we love you.

Just out of interest what happened to the Angela Smith thread ! A picture of Angela Smith was posted with an inappropriate comment considering she uses this message board. It was indeed and its still happening and still there to see not only criticism of her personally but casting doubt on her impartiality and integrity.

Margaret Thatcher is not my favorite person but she did say some memorable things. My personal favorite is “when my enemies resort to insults, I know their arguments are either weak or non-existent”.

I can't imagine he ever reprises his own broadcast, if he did he'd disappear from the scene very quickly. On here I often hear of "embarrassing performances" by our team, but much more embarrassing,in my opinion, are Nigels mostly inept performances. One of his co-performers refers to him as "Mr Stoke City"....What a sick joke.

I would say that Tyrese hit the right hand post yesterday but Nigel kept saying the left hand post, surely you call it as you’re looking at it and not from the goalkeepers view?

It would have been clearer if he had said the ball hit the goalkeepers left hand post

The Pundits on Sky yesterday were quite biased towards Reading, and like many others over the years did not like Stoke.
Just before half time one idiot said “Stoke haven't done much and are surprised to find themselves in the Lead.”!!
Have not done much? We scored two goals and defended magnificently against a very good, top of the league, Reading .
Would much prefer Nigel Johnson.

So Sky pundits were in agreement with most posters on the Oatcake then, who were slaughtering our players throughout the game even as the 3rd goal went in. It wasn't just Sky. Apparently TOB, Thompson, Baath, McClean, Smith, Brown, Powell and Campbell were all dire yesterday if you followed our match thread. Remarkable result given so many players were 'shit'.

I liked his little segue onto Reading having their floodlights on and not being happy when their electricity bill arrives. A proper Ron Manager moment.

But we only did to Reading what Reading have being doing this season, take our chances. They won 4-2 at Blackburn with four shots on goal! As for Sky, more often than not we look dire on live TV even when winning. That's down to the footballing style the managers we appoint prefer I'm afraid.

One of his most beautiful more recent comments came against Watford in the week: "If the referee saw that from thirty yards away, he's got magnetic eyes." It made my heart burst.
That, and "bang bang" as someone near the ground was letting off fireworks. "Glad I parked my car a couple of miles away" came the retort.
What's not to love.

Well said. Nigel Johnson and Angela Smith have given more to Stoke City FC and North Staffordshire than all the anonymous posters on the oatcake combined. Go public or shut your collective cake-hole.

I can remember first listening to Nigel in about 1984 and for me he is the voice of Stoke. I have so many memories of his commentaries. We need to treasure him while we can because we won’t get anyone again like him.
