Normally most managers use the first rounds of the Caraboa to give fringe and academy players an outting. If it means you bomb out, well that's just too bad. Not so with O'Neill. He gave game time to the vast majority of the players who finished so well in the last four games of last season, not so long ago. The only differences were Afobe, who wasn't here at the time, and Thompson, who's the manager's personal pet player. So from that I would deduct that the Caraboa really means an awful lot now. (Subject to change if there later is fixture congestation) The managers “pet player” who in 19 games for MON has started 8? As the manager himself stated this week the butt end of last season was no time to bring a new player in. He started him yesterday, and lo and behold, Thompson was the only player that was singled out for praise, apart from the goalie of the century that saved two pens. So yeah Thompson is O'Neill's favourite.

Since Sky tv everything about our game has gone downhill. While there is plenty wrong there is also plenty right. We had 10 years in the PL and they were mostly great. We signed some cracking players and played some great stuff at times. Without Sky there would have been no Cup Final for a start. Plus we're about to see one of the greatest players the game has ever seen in England.

There's an easy fix to make people sit up and take notice.
One Champions' League place for the winner of the Premier League.
Two Champions' League places for the FA Cup finalists (equivalent to 2nd and 3rd in the league).
One Champions' League place for the League Cup winner (equivalent to 4th place).
Every club in the country would be fielding their strongest XI in the cup.
