All over Radio Stoke referring to it as a pre-season friendly. Now MON saying it was good to get through simply because it will give us an extra game to "get minutes in" to the players. Basically just treating it like training. Bit sad that the one bit of silverware we've won has so deteriorated in status.
Well I'm happy we're through.

I didn't hear him say that about the next round. He said it's good to have another competitive game, and they want to play in competitive games.

What round is it? 1st or 2nd round?
Anyway, I’m sure given the chance we’d take getting to the 4th round and bowing out quietly. It’s a sad reality but who cares in our position? Championship team - we’re not going to win the competition and even more fixture congestion to add to the already congested list.
All the teams this round will view it as a pre-season friendly.

I can see the logic of moving the game forward to get extra game time in preparation for the league season and to avoid a cup tie while players were on International duty. A good league season (hopefully including promotion) HAS to be the priority for us. So I perfectly understand why MON felt he had to give priority to giving pitch time to certain players over fielding his best eleven. That doesn't mean he won't be happy to have won nor that he won't take future rounds seriously. The League Cup has always been a competition which becomes higher profile for Championship and Premier League clubs in the later rounds should they reach them.

We got a decent workout, won a penalty shootout and progressed into the next round. It's the end of the world

I was actually thinking myself earlier, "whats the point?". You haven't even really got the carrot of a bigger club in round 2 or 3 with the possible benefit of some useful gate receipts, as there will be no crowd attendences. So to some extent the club is just going through the motions.

We got a decent workout, won a penalty shootout and progressed into the next round. It's the end of the world We didn’t smash them 6-0 so everything is utter shit and we’re going to be in another relegation battle* *If we had won 6-0, we’d be well on course to win the League at a canter and then the World Cup.

Still win money dont you if you win? There is that and the title of carabao cup winners. It's still a trophy in my opinion.

It's pretty meaningless now, but I'd jizz myself silly if we ever went and won it.
Got to wait ages for the second round draw though. Come on, I've got the smell of Wembley in my nostrils!

This season was the perfect chance to bin it and think of something new. Without a doubt that’s what they should have done. The people in charge are brain dead. Obviously something to do with money as is everything else in football. FA Cup should be straight knock out with penos after 90 mins as well

Obviously something to do with money as is everything else in football. FA Cup should be straight knock out with penos after 90 mins as well I would think that the company Caribou or what ever spelling, would have something to say about that, given that they have a multi year sponsorship deal. I also think that it should be called “Leauge Cup sponsored buy.... but again with a congested fixture list a one season pause could have been arranged. Also don’t understand why 4 games this week and the rest of the draw fixtures are next week?

This season was the perfect chance to bin it and think of something new. Such as? I always thought an Anglo-Scottish cup would be fun. As long as we didn't draw Stenhousemuir obviously.

For a lot of teams they seem to just stumble towards the later rounds before taking it serious.

This season was the perfect chance to bin it and think of something new. Such as? I quite like the idea of a nations cup. I mean I think the clubs and police would hate it but I think it’d be ace (on paper at least). The League Cup clearly isn’t well thought of by clubs or fans until the semis. So something has to change.
