One of the most successful academies in the county is 15 miles down the road, and we routinely ignore it. Cutler, Brammer, Lund, Marshall - that’s all I can think of. They’ve got a left back at the moment (name escapes me) who is going to be a top class player, and it’s not even talked about him coming to Stoke. Years gone by, it wasn’t even entertained that we’d buy their players who’ve gone to very similar sized clubs (let’s discount Ashton, Johnson, Platt, etc) - Lunt, Ward, Maynard, Etc etc. Why are we never in for any of their players who’d fit us well (and we’d fit them well). Please refrain from any Barry Bennell comments, that’s not to do with my point. The 4 you’ve listed plus Powell (not directly from crewe) is still quite a few from 1 club. Aside from our slight obsession with Sunderland and WBA players I can’t think of more we’ve signed from any other club over recent years.

The 4 I listed were all free and all hardly played (I don’t think 2 of them ever played a game). Compared to Crewe players who’ve started there and gone on to play for bigger clubs (like stoke). My point being that they have produced (and sell) more players to our direct competition more than anyone, and our locality should put us in a good position to work with them. But it doesn’t. So really what I’m saying is that it should be way more and they should be our most visited club for buying players - but it ain’t.

Is Crewe 15 miles " Down " The road, or "UP" the road. Technically its Up the road as they are North... But here lies a problem...From Stone you go up to Stafford, even though it's clearly south, but the A34 Yarlet is quite a climb...Dunno... They're neither they're more West. So across the road?

Nicky Maynard has a bright spell at one point. Decent championship player. Did he ever play in the prem?

That's a good point actually. 2 bits of geographical trivia along similar lines, due to the shap and alignment of the UK... Edinburgh is to the West of Bristol...( I actually could not believe that, but it is true. ) Norwich is North of Birmingham.

Because they're shite? Name me the last Crewe player to make it all the way... this century? If Stoke is your definition of "make it all the way" then half Stoke thinks Powell has made it, the other half still can't forgive him for saying he hates scfc.

I could bore you with the intricacies of Mercator projections but you would probably fall asleep. 😀 Not sure how the Shap comes into it, but I assume you meant shape? Again due the Mercator projection system used to draw the maps the UK looks a lot larger than it actually is. Drawing maps of spheres on a flat piece of paper is not as straight forward as you may think🤔 Sorry to go on a bit but it is a interest of mine. Nautical charts etc⚓️

And yes...Shap should have been Shape.
