Of course it is. Like lordb says, maybe not 25 years ago... But now? Absolutely. Who have WE produced? Campbell was signed, so forget him. Tom Edwards? Yes Campbell was signed...by the same token Crewe therefore didn't produce Platt,Hignett,Savage, Ashton, Ashley Ward and God knows how many more. All were picked up from other clubs

Sorry, out of interest who have Crewe produced that is anything special within the last 10 years? That LB you don't know the name of and Powell? We've got a few players of interest coming through at the moment. Edwards, Sorenson, Campbell, Verlinden and Bursik are all in and around the team and will have good futures. We've just had half of Europe after one of our 16 year olds. I know Adam Porter is highly thought of within the setup and made the bench vs Forest.

If we’re using the last 25 years, we’ve made (probably) no money from ours (Did we get a few for Dickinson or Shotton?) whereas they’ve made millions. But, the point is - why don’t we sign their players? They’re good enough, make no mistake. And they were back in the 90s too. And the 00s. But we don’t go for them

The point is, we never go for anyone from Crewe but many many teams the same size as us do, and they get into their team. Being 15 miles away, wouldn’t you think we’d be tracking them even before they get to high value? Or even when they’re playing 90 mins a week for Crewe when they’re 18/19 years old. We should be all over them - but they just go to other clubs. Every time. And do well.

Is Crewe 15 miles " Down " The road, or "UP" the road. Technically its Up the road as they are North... But here lies a problem...From Stone you go up to Stafford, even though it's clearly south, but the A34 Yarlet is quite a climb...Dunno...

I seem to recall a few years ago Crwho's director of football who is now not allowed to be involved at all reportedly storming onto the pitch at Clayton Woods as his boys were getting yet another walloping from their equivalent Stoke City age group. They used to pick up young players from top flight clubs and sell them on now they can't do that they are struggling and any good kids they do have will be taken off them by the Category 1 academies for next to nothing.

Fair enough, it didn’t work out for him - but the point being that he graduated from Crewe and went to a big club. If people think we’re too good for 30 years of Crewe academy products (of varying success) then I guess we just disagree. It seems rather odd that even when there’s been a player, too good for Crewe and goes to a championship or premier league club - it’s never ever us. Even though we’re minutes down the road. Strange.

I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with you, I just stated that Murphy was back at Crewe. When we were in the Prem none of their players would have been good enough for us (not even Powell at the time) the only one who comes close during that period is Westwood who was basically a slightly inferior Whelan. Now we're a mid championship team it's a different story. There's 3 of their current squad who could make it in the championship with some work and a bit of luck - Ryan Wintle - Holding mid Perry Ng- Right back Harry Pickering - left back (can play centre mid, left mid)

My job takes me to Crewe Alex acadamy (not football related). Last time I was there got talking to one of their coaches and he said they can't compete with Stoke's acadamy anymore.

I named a lot of players before, and it’s you that imposed this 15 year rule. If you think Westwood wouldn’t improve us, you’re dreaming. He’d be our best player. He’s had a pretty consistent career at villa and then Burnley when Villa went down. But anyway, your 15 year rule isn’t the point. The point is more about there being no relationship at all - and they’ve had players move on that would’ve improved us. I named a few at the start of the thread. I’ll concede Danny Murphy, Rob Jones, David Platt (at the time he left but he was a Crewe a while, and we had time to get him), Seth Johnson, Nick Powell and probably Dean Ashton - they went higher than we were at the time. But the others could’ve come to Stoke. But it wasn’t even a consideration by the looks of it.

The point is they are not producing players of the quality they used to because they can not attract the talent any longer. I agree in years gone by we should have had more players from them but maybe they just wouldn't sell to us?Surely we must of tried.

Why would we?

The reason we don't go after Crewe players is that for a very long time they haven't been any where near Premier League standard. If they have some now who are Championship standard then sure let's have a look but it's bonkers to argue we should have signed players from Crewe at any time since Tony Blair was PM.

Powell Or at least he had a go at Premier League That's it though Dean Ashton we had here before he went to Crewe Really out of date from the op I would go further and state that our Academy is better than theirs right now. Our academy better than theirs? Come on mate. Our academy is miles better than theirs now and has been for years.

And they’ve got players now that would get in our side. Perry Ng being another example.

At no point did I limit this to post Blair. If you think that none of the players they’ve sold to championship clubs over the years weren’t good enough to play for Stoke, then I guess we agree to disagree. Lunt and Hulse sold to SWFC and WBA when we had Russel and Iwelumo.
