Having a real goalkeeper could be the most noticeable difference next season, bring Allen back in and we certainly won’t be worrying about relegation with 3 games left

We still looked awful at the back, just a little more confident that the keeper might get them out of it like he did with the 1on1.

did Davies make an error? genuine q I thought he did everything he needed to do well
could have maybe come for a couple crosses that he didn't but he at least came for some, which is more than Butland ever would have

He's done well since coming into the team and we've picked up 4 points. It's great news. The hypocrisy of some knows no bounds though. |

Davies made an important save but looked unsure under several crosses and got away with a big mistake coming out of his area to clear. And at times we looked wide open defensively. Nothing on that show to conclude anything about our goalkeepers

We were a bit shaky at the back today, particularly the last 15/20 mins. Could easily have let the game slip away.
Davies definitely looking better than Jack atm, but there were a couple of times that were very noticeable where he didn't know whether he was coming out to catch the ball or not.

We shit ourselves whenever a ball goes over the top. As soon as the pairing are asked to turn and face they lose their bearings.
We’re only looking less fragile because it was impossible to look more fragile. But if anything drove that tonight it was the forward positioning of Adam Davies and his awareness to danger. He swept up balls Batth and Chester missed really well. But I don’t think we were solid by any means, maybe in the air but certainly not with the runs in behind.

We won't be worried about relegation with Rotherham and Wycombe up anyway. And yet we have danced through the season with Luton, barnsley and Charlton Far bigger teams than the two I mentioned mate. Wycombe arguably biggest minnow ever in the championship , Burton may disagree. |

I think Davies looked better and made at least two interventions that butland would probably have fucked up. But yes, I didn’t see that we looked any more secure as a result. I think he has done enough to retain his place though and may grow in confidence as opposed to the ever decreasing levels butland seems have. |

He can't even do the most basic things right any more and is a complete liability. I have a feeling that his injury has completely hobbled him and it's affecting his movement, agility, spring etc. I suspect it's affecting him more than he's letting on and he might be hiding how bad it's affecting him to try and protect his career and he's hoping he can play through it and play his way back into form. Mental issues could be affecting him too and probably are but it's just the way that so many shots are easily going past him that makes me think it's physical. That second goal Middlesbrough scored is a perfect example for me. On it's own not a glaring rickett but he just didn't seem to react to it and there's absolutely no way that would have got past him in 2014-16. I think that's a 6 or 7 times out of 10 save for most keepers. |

Davies looked very assured again tonight. One little blip but on the whole he filled me with confidence. And you would hope he will only get better

We looked fragile.
The centre halves were all over the shop and Davies does the Hokey Cokey with crosses.
All 3 need replacing.

Davies to me looks like a normal, competent Championship standard keeper. Nothing amazing and not going to trouble the Premier League, will make mistakes etc. But overall competent and will do until we can find someone better. We were spoiled in the Sorensen, Begovic, early Butland era and won't be seeing that standard any time soon. But overall he's a far better option than Butland is today. I think we'd have lost today with Butland in goal.
That save in the first half sums up the difference. Defences will make mistakes and can't perfectly protect a goalkeeper all the time, and a defence as poor as ours makes more mistakes as most. A goalkeeper's job is to produce good saves and bail the defence out when they fail to prevent a chance. Too often this season when we've given a chance away, Butland simply hasn't delivered and too many saveable shots have got past him too easily. Our shots on target to goals conceded percentage tells the story perfectly this season.

Adam Davies gives the defence a bit of confidence.
The question is does Adam Davies have condfidence in his defence ,???.
Our defenders have been shocking for a long time.
Butterfingers Butland just made the problem look even worse.
The defence has been shocking since Robert Huth left us.
Shawcross is a spent force and he was the other half of a good defensive partnership led by Huth.
MON knows that the team are rotten all the way to their core and he will be throwing them out of the door left right and centre if Scholes allows him to.
If he is not allowed to build his own team he will walk out of the door himself.
If he keeps us up clubs will be lining up for him to take charge of them next season.
Who can blame him if he walks.
Scholes has not whispered a peep about next seasons battle plans, he is keeping his head well below the fortress walls in case he gets empty head blown off.
He has not got Cartwright there to take the bullets for him any longer.

WE have no one fast enough to bring the ball out from deep, relying on long hoof balls and losing possession. We put ourselves under constant pressure because we can't keep the ball long enough to build an attack.

Davies has a few weaknesses in his game that dictate he can't be number one going forward, but where he trumps Butland by a huge margin is his willingness to come out to the edge of his area and claim balls. The one on one, without any doubt would have been conceded with Butland.
Again though, it's a disgrace that we are really having this debate with respect to Butland vs a free transfer from Barnsley.
Butland should be streets ahead but is nowhere near.

That save first half Butland would have been still on his line then would have dived as the player put it over him. That centre forward was useless though.
