Because, as he demonstrated several times, he wasn’t quite ready to play regularly last season. Even then, he was very much part of the squad and made plenty of appearances. Collins, like all the other youngsters, has been handled very well and gradually eased in at exactly the right time. Here we go again It’s retrospective criticism. It gets on my nerves to be honest. It’s like bringing through the youngsters isn’t enough. The narrative now is they should have been in the team earlier. To me, that’s just wrong.

Once MON fully see's the light and finally trusts Souttar & Collins to be our no.1 partnership, just watch us fly. Unfortunately this may not happen until we sign a functioning right back. That’s all to come, but for the time being I think the other two lads, Fox and Chester have been fine. Chester was excellent again yesterday and Fox gets unfair criticism. He’s gone out there last night, head taped up like a rugby player, and not given their best player (Samuel) a kick.

It’s retrospective criticism. It gets on my nerves to be honest. It's the easiest criticism in the world. There's literally no comeback to it that will suffice. "If Collins had been given his debut at 17 and played 150 games for us we'd be challenging for top 6 in the Premier League by know. Absolutely shite" "How do you know?" "Because he's superb" "But if he'd been handled differently he might not be as good now?" "Oh he would, probably better" "You can't say that for sure?" "I can and I will. Because I am right" etc etc.

From Wycombe onwards Fox has impressed me, whether he's settled in now and finding a bit of form but he's looking a lot better. Chester whilst he's improved still scares the bejesus out of me though

There’s room for experience and I think Chester has been outstanding. He was getting unfair criticism early in the season. He’s a very competent defender at this level.
