www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-transfer-jack-clarke-4882857Warnock doesn't seem to think he's one that can hit the ground running at this level - and his loan back to Leeds and spell at QPR weren't massive successes after the initial hype But maybe, if true, we're at the stage where we need to take a punt and get a promising warm body who can offer something out wide, such is the shortage of options that are available and affordable in this window? He looked surprisingly poor against Marine I thought but unless he's played against and I didn't notice him I've never watched him otherwise.

Is he a wide forward?

He was quality for Leeds and would do a great job for us. Reminded me of Mark Chamberlain watching him ghost past players.

We have one of those though, you'd think if we're spending money when its so tight it would need to be more than a punt on just another body.

Shock
Who would have thought MON set us up to defend until we could address our poor attacking options
I reckon Jose and MON would get on, probs offered us Clarke during our cup tie

Stoke...plan... really Dave?!!!. Great isn't it. I know nothing of any of the players we are signing or being linked with signing so I'm not getting too excited but it's still good to observe that the manager has a plan and the club are doing everything they can to deliver it.

Football Insider are getting a lot of exclusives on us nowadays, aren’t they?! I blame Kitson. It’s good, but it’s all loans isn’t it? I guess that’s the only downfall. We haven't taken advantage of the loan system for years, and given FFP restrictions, loans are sort of short and long-term solutions at the moment. If we're promoted this season, there's more chance of loan players joining permanently if they're successful. If we don't get promoted, we have the whole summer to sign permanent targets O'Neill and the club likely have their eyes on already.

Wonder if it could even be an 18 month long loan? Or at a 6 months with the option of next season if we fancy it.

Hi is one of those young players that has taken a bit of a step backwards from his original time at Leeds. It maybe just a run of proper competitive games required in a settled line up but its a gamble for sure.

He was quality for Leeds and would do a great job for us. Reminded me of Mark Chamberlain watching him ghost past players. Got a Leeds supporting mate who doesn't rate him very highly Said he had 10 games where he was good but apart from that was poor and they were laughing when Spurs paid them £12million for him. He was also not great on loan at QPR last season. Hoping I'm wrong but im not that excited by this one.

Could this mean the Alfie deal is in Doughty? He's for next season really though, isn't he? Matondo and Clarke on the wings would be a bold move as they both seem so raw - but sounds more promising than McClean and Brown! While we're only ever a Fletcher niggle away from Vokes, though, hard not to still be praying for a striker of some sort Got that spot on Grapey. My biggest concern is not having Fletcher available and having no decent replacement. It's likely he will miss more games and he often fades during 90 minutes, which is understandable, with no obvious like for like replacement off the bench. Concerning that no firm rumours of a striker seem to be heard. Still time of course in the window.

Just messaged a guy at work about him who’s a Leeds season ticket holder.
Says he’s good, but not been the same player since he collapsed at the side of the pitch whilst watching Leeds vs boro in 2019.
He seems to think there is still some lasting damage to whatever that was.

Excited by the links/signing of younger players, surely we have to sign a striker though?..

Verlinden has been our only alternative though tbf - MON clearly didn’t think that Verlinden offered enough to warrant changing from the back 5.

I like this new direction we are heading in, exciting young players with pace and skill, we'll soon be one of the fastest teams in the league! For all we know we could be setting up a stable of young players to turn out as runners at the Cheltenham Festival!

It’s good, but it’s all loans isn’t it? I guess that’s the only downfall. We got promoted to the prem in 2008 with 4 loan players in the starting 11.

I do worry a little bit that he was on loan in this league all of last season and played like 6 games.

It’s good, but it’s all loans isn’t it? I guess that’s the only downfall. If we hope to get promoted this season then there are benefits for going for the bulk of the new players being on loan. The cost of a loan is obviously much less than buying the same player. Given that for the next 12 months (unless we get promoted this season) we will be under severe FFP constraints, going for loans means we can bring in better quality players on loan than we can currently afford to buy.
