Exciting game but the reaction is way over the top. Much of the game was identical to others of late - take the lead, don't cash in on an hour of dominance and let the opposition score 2 sloppy goals. The only difference was a mad extra time - and that isn't going to happen very often. Our decline will only halt when we take our chances and stop conceding daft goals - not by relying on last minute heroics, I agree with all of that 100%. However, in terms of giving this lot a massive shot of confidence (which they desperately needed), the actual manner of yesterday's win might have provided that far more than a comfortable, straight forward 3-0 win, would have done. They've proved to the manager, the fans and (most importantly) themselves, that they actually have the character to come back from the death, when all was seemingly lost. Agree re confidence and how important that is - but I just hope the confidence of the win doesn't mask the on-going issues of the overall performance. My hope is that O'Neil gives every single player a well deserved pat on the back for the last 6 minutes and a right bollocking for the previous 90 and making the last six necessary. Overall I think we're improving - and the seeds of improvement have even come through in some of the recent defeats. We're starting to look like a team and a lot of that is down to O'Neil recognising the importance of players working for each other and playing a consistent team to build understanding and a rhythm to the play. However we're still prone to switching off at vital moments and despite all the improvements that could still kill us.

Back to reality, the reality that every game is a battle and one game doesn’t make a squad that’s been dreadful all season turn into world beaters.
I think we all need to be realistic, we’re where we are on merit and there’s a massive fight on our hands. Crucial to bounce back now.
But we need to start following up our wins by picking up points here and there.

That was the best team I’ve seen this season in the first 45. The second we started to win headers in the second half, we were a lot better. If we are going to stick with this formation etc, we have to win the headers from the long ball.

We certainly aren’t surrendering with as much frequency as we were previously which is encouraging. But as I said on the first page of this thread, individual results don’t change a thing. You have to have little runs to get what you want to achieve. It’s something we’ve struggled with all season.

Lost the most games in the division, we'll be down there in May for sure.
The question is can we win enough to stay up.
I suspect not, the defence will relegate us. Even our wins are high scoring by both teams, 4-2 v Barnsley, lucky 3-2 v Wednesday, you can't keep shipping two goals and win many games...

I saw a desire in the last 20 minutes that had been missing for most of the season

Barnsley haven't lost in their last 5, one to look out for. Other two are doggers though.

The reality is we were playing a top team in their place, one that was more recently in the PL than we were, and one that adapted well, unlike us. When those are the conditions, and we're a bottom four team, then expecting to get a point or more is really not realistic, which of course doesn't mean that you should stop trying and just roll over instead. As was we didn't but on the other hand we never really looked like getting anything, until very late in the game. Our newfound belief that we can achieve things in time added on almost did bring something, but ultimately, a one goal deficit under those conditions is nothing to be ashamed of nor should it bring out the doom mongers.

Didn’t last long did it!!! You expected to beat Fulham did you ? Why not we beat them at home? This league is Wank and we are nearly the Wankest of the lot! After beating Wednesday we should of gone for it with two up top to try get in a winning position! Fulham are nowt special.

They have been stuttering of late, go there on the back of a good win and take it to them. Instead we go looking like we have never met each other before and should have been 5 down by half time

Exactly. They have been stuttering of late, go there on the back of a good win and take it to them. Instead we go looking like we have never met each other before and should have been 5 down by half time Weak pathetic approach just sums whole club up. Is that the weak, pathetic approach that saw us score two injury time goals to win a game for perhaps the only time in our history in our last match? We've lost 1-0 to the third place team today, who beat the second placed team in their last home game with two or three players who were breathing through their arses at the end of the game. The fans who were at Craven Cottage certainly appreciated the team's efforts today and had you been offered three points from these last two games and the team out of the relegation zone after today's game, you'd have taken it 100%.
