Surely it's obvious to everyone that the manager isn't playing Badou and Etebo not because he thinks the others are better but because they are off. Whether that's his choice or not is the question. Collins will be next, we will sell anybody a bid comes in for if we are relegated, if not before

Loaned instead of sold because of FFP surely. If he's sold for less than the amortised value, which he would be, it would crystallise a loss on the accounts. So getting £5m etc isn't helpful, it actually makes things worse than keeping him. If he's loaned for 18 months it gets rid of his wages and doesn't crystallise a loss. This is what means we may loan lots of players, will sell players who have FFP value, even if it's marginal gains. This post needs pinning It now makes some kind of sense

But surely the annual depreciation or amortisation continues if he’s loaned and is still on our books, and if so this would still effect FFP the only difference being a timing one?

Exactly what I was thinking, when I read the post, just. It’s a just timing difference but imagine we probably want to avoid taking the full hit this year given we are so up against it with the current wage bill. The year after we will have a few more big earners off the books to lighten the load slightly.

So, farewell, Badou Ndiaye. Good player, but like many of our senior pro's who played in the Premier, should have been tearing up this utterly mediocre league. They aren't. Might as well just clear the decks and start again.

Yes, I'm sure the reason (but can't prove it) the large contract lengths handed in our first year in the championship was to reduce impact of signings from a FFP view.

Are you saying that Scholes is not as daft as we all think he is? Some of the things suggest so. The club to me though screams no strategy, or poorly thought out ones. I'm sure it's not the case, but it's how it comes across.

Some of the things suggest so. The club to me though screams no strategy, or poorly thought out ones. I'm sure it's not the case, but it's how it comes across. I'm still getting my head around crystallising a loss So are Stoke. Its about how players are recorded as assets for accounting purposes. Imagine a player signed for £50m over a 5year contract. The players asset value would be 50/40/30/20/10 for years 1/2/3/4/5. If the player doesn't work out and you want to sell, but the market is only prepared to pay £10m you are going to lose £40m in non accounting terms. But the timing of when you do it will matter with FFP. If you do it in yr2, the players value, will have already reduced by £10m and been recorded in the financial accounts. But it's still £40m, so you've lost £30m in that one financial year, instead of £10m if you kept the player.. This is the reason Imbula and Wimmer I'd expect to be loaned indefinitely. Other players could be loaned until their depreciation in accounting terms means it's possible to let them go. I'm no expert but this is my understanding based on reports I've read in the past.

Yes this is my understanding too. On the plus side we did write off about £18m of player value in the previous year's accounts. I imagine Berahino was a big chunk of this which is why we managed to sack him without too much remorse. In hindsight I'm sure they wish that they wrote down a few other player values while they had the chance!

All correct- the problem being that you are stuck with the salary and amortisation for the extended period of time- so until the deadwood goes, we will be under the FFP hammer for at least another 3 years. The gamble of spending £50m on crap players in the hope of a quick return to the Premier. and hanging on to our saleable assets has exploded in our faces quite spectacularly.

Especially players with not a lot of resale value. I’m sure scholes etc could be talked into signing a one legged donkey on a five year contract they are so gullible or have no actual respect or value for money. Spoilt kid syndrome

Stop focussing on the manager, train your guns into Scholes This is like when Cartwright was getting pelters. Wrong target. Scholes is responsible, possibly J Coates

No manager in the history of the game has ever done that. People go through what is said to the press like fundamentalists going through scriptures. They find something to back their argument and quote it for the rest of time.
