I've seen how our players perform when they decide that they're playing an opposition worthy of sharing the pitch with them. Prior to that game our only wins were against Swansea and Fulham, when the players could be bothered turning in a performance. Last season, the only performances of note were against the top teams in the division. I think that is a very good observation. What bugged me most was under Rowett's tenure, the only time the players started to get their finger out and start bossing a match was after we had gone 2 or 3 goals down, usually when the game was gone. I'm still supporting MON although today it seems like the media have started to wind up the fans against him. He has stuck with basically the same XI and just changed the main striker and RB, apart from giving N'Diaye and Powell a run out when Clucas was injured. Jones was criticised for making too many changes; now MON is criticised for picking the same players, but the "wrong ones". I don't see the players in training and don't know who is match fit or putting in the effort, but MON and his assistants do. I expect he will make the odd adjustment tomorrow night, but will be surprised if there is wholesale change. He will keep tweaking it till he finds the best combination. I think a lot of people don't appreciate that Allen, Etebo, and N'Diaye are similar* box to box MFs who have a lot of energy and ball skills, but are not brilliant incisive passers that create goal scoring opportunities, nor are they good at defending. Hence MON is preferring to select just one of them with Woods and Clucas, plus the only two wide players we have, Ince and McClean. * similar doesn't mean the same. (Edit: Allen probably gets the vote because he does score occasionally) What garbage, Ndiaye is the best tackler by a country mile and when he plays DM he stands out head and shoulders above anyone else who's played there....and he's got good distribution

By the law of averages mate at least some of our signings would be up to the job, let's not forget who is making these managerial appointments, with that in mind I firmly do believe they have possibly done it again, difficult to contemplate I know but more than likely. But most of the players we have signed, on paper and according to their CV's are decent. It's just when they come here they turn into shadows of their former selves. Finding the cause of that phenomenon is a very big start in sorting our problems out. My theory is MH introduced the doss house mentality. The club paid no attention to it and abandoned their responsibilities and now we get to enjoy the spoils of their ineptitude every week in a freezing cold stadium eating cold chips and supping over priced distinctly average ale. Maybe the Coates should take a walk in the average fans match day experience and maybe they would start understanding what all this fuss is about!! It's wank. Edit; and to be fair reading this board if it wasn't for a lot of blokes on here going to the match because its a better option than shopping with their missus our crowds would be far worse. It sounds daft, but I work in sales in the tech Comms industry, for all my big customers or and opportunities I do what’s called a day in the life of. I try to do it with different business departments and you learn so much. I think if the Coates did it they’d learn so much about the match day experience and also the hatred towards this current group of players.

(Edit: Allen probably gets the vote because he does score occasionally) This is madness though isn't it Cokey? We're fragile as rice paper and we've decided we need a 'passing' midfield? And the 'passing' midfield he's selected isn't actually very good at passing and only managed to pass to each other 13 times all game on Saturday. We're also generally bypassing this midfield with long balls. We need steel there, first and foremost. Ndiaye is good at defending. He's been excellent in the holding role pretty much whenever he's played there this season. He's a million times better defensively than Allen or Woods.

I would question that he has good distribution, which I think is the main shortfall of all our MF players. I concede Jones did rate him. (Woods has the best distribution, but very weak defensively.) N'Diaye played against Cardiff and we lost, and he failed to keep his place in the team. He has come on as a sub regularly and not changed the course of the game. How good is he? No clubs have made a decent offer (if any) for him. He is clearly an awkward character and fell out with Rowett, maybe he has upset MON. Maybe that is why no one has bought him? He doesn't score or get into scoring positions. He does tackle well, but the main role of a DFM is to anticipate and intercept passes (Geoff Cameron was quite good at it, but weak at everything else.) It is more usual nowadays for defenders to "guide" attackers away (usually onto their weaker foot) or press them to pass backwards/sideways, rather than commit to a tackle; as missing a tackle and getting beaten by a forward immediately creates a dangerous position.

Allen and Woods are both small in stature. Clucas isn’t a beast in stature either (I would play Clucas at Left-back just to have “more legs” in defence).
Etebo and Ndiaye at least offer more physicality. Their work rate is good too.
We need to put a team out who has an excellent work ethic and will not take a backward step. This has to include both Etebo and Ndiaye. There is also an argument for both McClean and Mama in the team with them too forming a midfield four of workers who don’t take that backward step.
Just an opinion but I do feel like MON has not got it right up to this point in time (lucky that his first two games were against poor sides but good that we took the points).

I know it's early days and all that but that line up yesterday seemed naïve at best, does he have the managerial awareness to motivate and improve the players he has at his disposal ?, we have to hope the board have got this one right. IMHO this titled thread opens up a pathway for the keyboard warriors to continue sniping at anything and everything SCFC. It’s not helpful and only provides fuel for dividing the supporter base (what’s left of it) further. I’m fully aware that the positivity barrel is currently low on contents, w’ed be scraping the barrel to find anything to be positive about, but think about what is posted and the possible effects!!!

What 'possible effects'? The messageboard is a place for talking about the club warts and all. As long as support is good on a match day (and if the team gives its all it will be), what's posted on here doesn't matter.

I have question marks already though.

As it stands he's getting points on the board, if he learns from his mistakes then I can't complain (Hogan as a lone striker), he needs to be allowed some wiggle room, if he does it over and over again I think it would be time to worry about him.

The squad is utter dogshite, one, if not the worst we have ever had. On that basis, no matter what players are picked it's going to be a poor selection. If he keeps us up with this shower of shit, then he will have been a good appointment, if not a great one. And to think people at the club are actually still employed for putting this shit show together, just to put a little spice into mixture what I was told yesterday was nuts about Jones/Stoke appointment, utterly utterly bizarre, need to ponder implications before posting far more reaching than someone who used to work for someone who wasn’t very god at his job who watches loads of football etc etc

Don’t know. But we would have had if Jones was exited earlier. He deserves the same time. Think he would like to play 2 up front, but we saw what happens when he does that against Blackburn. I think he doesn’t trust the players he has INHERITED to defend. So he’s having to play with caution (hence 2 clean sheets and no shots on target) until he’s assessed all the players. I’m not sure if he’s any good or not, but his NI record tells me he probably could be. Truth is, if he isn’t the right man who is and would they come here in our current position? I think not. My view, we need to get behind him, because he may just be our only viable hope. 10 points from 21 not bad. That said, yesterday was not good. Reading were very poor. Negativity and changing of managers needs to stop for a while as this doesn’t help imo. Hard not to be negative when you watch the likes of Ince, I realise.
