How bad is this adaptation so far? Unrealistic reactions and emotions from poorly drawn characters, poor script and lacks tension too. The primary characters love life takes precedence over an alien invasion, and it’s effectively a soap opera with a sci fi back drop. There’s some lumpen comparisons with modern society. Really disappointing, it’s genuinely rubbish.

I watched it purely as it was filmed just up the road from me in the village Great Budworth, and then where it landed down in Delamere Forest, it wasn't great. Yuo'll probably recognise these images from last night, Surrey my arse www.bing.com/images/search?q=great+budworth&FORM=HDRSC2

I don't think I've ever looked forward to a TV show so much, to then be ultimately so disappointed, when finally watching it.
I've seen better editing in student film course work, the special effects seem like something from 30 years ago and the script is genuinely awful.
How they have spent so much money, to produce something that is really so utterly poor in quality, seems completely inconceivable.

I watched it for about 20 minutes last night and then gave up. I just thought the adaptation and general production was pretty poor.
I won't be watching any more of it.

They had changed so much in the first episode last night from the original novel, that they might as well not have bothered called it 'The War of the Worlds'. So many new characters inserted, that spinning ball (which, to risk sounding super nerdy, looked suspiciously like the Daleks' 'Void Ship' from an episode of Dr Who 6 or 7 years ago) rather than the iconic scene where the cylinder lid falls off and the Martian emerges, and those imagined future flash-forward scenes which weren't explained at all . I understand the need for tweaking during adaptation, but not wholesale change.

A little off topic perhaps but you’d have to go a long way to beat Jeff Wayne’s musical version.
IMHO, tin hat on.

I actually gave it another try tonight. It's not brilliant, and rather slow, but I watched the entire first episode. I'm going to watch it all just to see how this adaptation differs from previous versions.

Watched the first episode with Mrs Q. She was impressed, I wasn't. The dialogue wasn't awful but it was far from inspiring.
All a stilted love story with the martian invasion largely an irrelavence & mostly there to chuck some special effects in. And missing the iconic cylinder opening too - why would they not do that? Surely an opportunity for a dramatic moment.
Looks like I'll have to suffer the rest of the series with Mrs Q. To be fair, she sat through a 1950's film about cricket without complaining so I owe her this one.
