Depends. Was it a sport reference or a downfall of an empire one?

Was Joe Grundy a closet Stoke fan and it’s only just been mentioned at his funeral ?? (and yes I do sometimes listen to The Archers 🤫)

Classic FM provides some relief, but even that can get repetitive. Radio 4 really does provide some interesting stuff (amongst the dross and The Archers).

I’m addicted to Radio 4 - you just never know what’s coming next. I draw the line at Woman’s Hour though.

I’m addicted to Radio 4 - you just never know what’s coming next. I draw the line at Woman’s Hour though. The odd thing is also - the shipping forecast. After hearing it a million times, I still like the tune that they play . Is it called Sailing Away, or something like that. Then listening to the names of all those places that I have no idea where they are. Rockhall, Fisher, Finistare, Mallin , Hebrides, Bailey ....... Names that I heard when i was small kid. Imagining small fishing boats out at sea in stormy weather.
These boats must have GPS, Radar and all the gear, but they must listen to the forecast.

Some bloke who went on tour and visited a place in each area.

Going back to The Archers. Somehow the world was a different place without old Walter Gabriel. A bit like when John Arlott left the scene on TMS.

Can I recommend the 10 part documentary just aired at 1.45 (after World at One) about Tunnel 29 which was dug under the Berlin Wall. Each episode 15 minutes long and a fascinating insight into the degree of desperation, courage and perseverance of East Germans prepared to risk everything to escape their predicament in Communist run East Berlin
Could do with a bit of the same spirit on this Forum sometimes!

Even the most ardent cricket lover will admit that there are times when cricket can become extremely boring. More so years ago, than these days. Matches did actually last five days back then (often)..... if a team "puts the shutters up" to play the game out for a draw. John would then just give basic info "Illingworth bowls to (whoever), plays it back down the wicket, no run" he would at this point go back to his earlier commentary about a pidgeon performing some antics or other in front of the pavilion. If he had a dog to comment on, even better.

There's no escape from this forum! Well if MON doesn’t turn this around by Christmas I’m planning an escape tunnel - who’s in? Starting in opposition goalmouth - we shouldn’t get disturbed there and planning to come out down by the incinerator
