Pulis wouldn't bid £4m for Ronaldo and Rooney. I find it very hard to believe he has tabled such a bid.

I think he would be a 12-15 goal man in the premier which is ok if Fuller gets the same amount. Wages possibly a bit too high to entice him to Stoke?

Whats the deal with Nugent anyway. Does he have a dodgy reputation? and if so for what?

Whats the deal with Nugent anyway. Does he have a dodgy reputation? and if so for what? Theres no real deal with him. He is a proven quality Championship forward but really has struggled in the Prem, that may not be his fault as he wasn't really given a chance last season, but we really need a proven goalscorer (if we can get one!) for next season, Nugent wouldn't excite many Stokies I would imagine.

A possible loan deal to Ipswich fell through in early March 2008 with Jim Magilton, the Ipswich manager, left questioning Nugent's integrity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And when he signed for Pompey ARRY said he could leave almost straight away!

He does appear to have a question mark about his committment. But he also appears to be homesick for his mates in the frozen north so he might fancy a move nearer to there.
He'd be a big gamble to my mind as he hasn't proved he can cut the mustard in the Prem. However, TP's gambles sometimes pay off so I'm open minded on this one.

And when he signed for Pompey ARRY said he could leave almost straight away! Must of destroyed the lads confidence a bit, signed for roughly £6million, play a couple of games and then learn that the manager wants to quickly get rid of you. Hardly inspiring is it?, however, if he joins us and scores vital goals, then he will be a bloomin hero in my eyes.

i think we will struggle to get a proven goalscorer. why would a player who scores 20-30 goals want to come to a club who are one of the favourites to go down. If we stay up for 2-3 yrs that would cahnge but I think this season will be the hardest to attract the higher class of player.

I think that if it's true, he's exactly the kind of player we should be going for.
This time last year he was linked to a number of Premiership clubs, and basically cocked it up for himself by holding out for a deal with Everton. Had he gone to Blunderland he'd have scored goals and done OK.
At 4m it seems a bit steep, but he went for 2m more than that 12 months ago, and when you look at other British players fees that seems good value. His record prior to Portsmouth is OK, and hes got a full England cap. If Tony is as good at turning players around and building confidence as he seems to be, we could get a gem with Nugent.

A lot of the above could have been applied to Stein and Sheron before they signed, but look what happened with them.

When did we last sign an England International - excluding Ricketts on loan? Like I said, this would be a gamble but if it came off it would be a bit of a coup.

My thoughts exactly. He's a talented player, that isn't in question. If we go down, we've got one of the best forwards outside of the premier to fire us back up, and if we stay up, and Pulis works his usual magic, we could have a good premier player on our books. Come on TP & PC, sign him up! 3-4m imo is a bargain for a young english striker.

How can a player go from the most talked about player outside the top flight, the most feared striker in the Championship, who manages to play for England whilst not plying his trade in the Premiership, to someone dismissed as "gash" who many of you don't want us to touch with a barge pole, after one season at Pompey where he hardly played a game?
What do you base your opinions on? I'd rather base mine on the terrific performances he put in at PNE and hope that a new start and a warm welcome would rekindle the fire in a potential match winner of a player.
IMHO £4m is far better spent on him than on Ameobi.

I also am in the MrMagic line of thinking here.
Get Harewood as well and we'd have suffcient firepower and brute force with Fuller, Harewood, Nugent, Sidibe and even Cresswell for survival. Although I think Cresswell whatever happens will only be a bit part sub.
Also if the forgotten man of Parkin can get himself fully fit and motivated then I think he will also be a useful asset. I think the less physical side of the prem will suit Parkin . .. . strange thought I know for a guy his size but he just isn't a battering ram Mama style player, with the ball into his feet he's a far more effective player. We saw a glimpse of this in his loan period.

05/06/2008 - Pulis 'in £4m bid to land Nugent'
Stoke's promotion to the Premier League has ensured they are being linked with a plethora of players in the national media.
So who has the rumour mill got plying their trade at the Brit next season? Read this column each day to find out ...
Stoke boss Tony Pulis has renewed his interest in Portsmouth striker DAVID NUGENT, according to both The Mirror and The Sun today.
Stoke were close to taking the former Preston hitman on loan towards the end of last season as their Premier League promotion push reached its climax.
That deal fell through, but Pulis is apparently still keen to bring Nugent to the Brit and is prepared to spend £4m to do so. However, he could face a challenge from Stoke's fellow Premier League new boys Hull.
Stoke are apparently battling Hull for the signature of Danish defender MAGNUS TROEST, according to The Sun.
ANTHONY GARDNER the Stafford-born Tottenham defender signed by the Londoners from Port Vale for £850,000 in 2000, is said to be keen on a move to Stoke to revive his flagging career.
Stoke have apparently joined Fulham in the race to sign Rangers' £3m-rated French striker DANIEL COUSIN.
Another Rangers striker interesting Stoke is Scotland international LEE McCULLOCH. He remains under contract at Rangers, but is being linked to Stoke after Tony Pulis tried to sign him from Wigan two years ago. City are rumoured to be ready to pay £1.5m.
Striker MARLON HAREWOOD is under contract at Aston Villa, but is said to be interesting Stoke, Fulham and Rangers. Villa want £4m to sell.
West Brom striker KEVIN PHILLIPS, a free agent who wants a two-year deal rather than the 12 months offered by the Baggies, is interesting Stoke.
MARTON FULOP, Sunderland's Hungary international goalkeeper, joined Stoke on loan in February, but was recalled after just one game. He could be about to make a permanent return.
Manchester City's SUN JIHAI is said to be heading for the Brit. The 30-year-old China midfielder is out of contract.
PATRIK BERGER was apparently wanted by Stoke. However, Tony Pulis denied having any contact with the Czech midfielder, who has since joined Sparta Prague.

Nugent could possibly cut it in the prem if he had an experienced player alongside him. Kevin Phillips perhaps ? Even so £4M is exessive

Ric won't get 12-15 , doubtful anyway if you look at the goalscoring record he had last season, 5 goals in 2 games boosted it massively as well. We need two strikers, with Ric , Cressy and Mama all fighting for two places along with the two additions.

It's a tough one. If we'd signed him last season, we'd all have been doing cartwheels. And he hasn't suddenly become awful. But Redknapp clearly doesn't rate him that highly as a top-flihgt talent, and maybe he was overhyped as a C'ship striker. But his Pompey career got off to a really slow start, and his injury problems compounded the issue. He must have been struggling for match fitness all season, as well as confidence. But, overall, I think he'd offer more value for money than Ameobi. He has got some real talent in there, when fit and confident. This is what a PNE fan said on here whne we were linked with the loan move: Nugent - pacey, skilful, creative, balanced, two-footed and a scorer of exquisite goals. Sound familiar?
He likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender and defenders are fearful of stepping up because they know once he is in, they won't catch him. Also very good at dropping deep to receive a ball to feet, laying it off and then spinning to receive a first time pass from a player who is inventive enough to supply.
How would I see Fuller and Nugent playing together? They would have to supply nappies to opposition defenders - because they would fill them! seriously that would be some strike force and one that I would be jealous of, if I was a jealous person. oatcakefanzine.proboards27.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Potters&thread=11520&page=1#123268

i'd have him for 4 mil he aint had much of a chance at pompy so if he's surplus to requirements there then i'd take him also we have to think of next season, if we dont stay up (which we will) we will have a proven ccc stiker that can possibly fire us straight back up
we need a decent left winger as well
