Why isn’t Lambert in this thread... Lambert's record was better than Jones' and given their respective resources and oppositions better than Rowett's. I’m with you there. He knew what was wrong and tried to fix what he could. Also wanted Gayle. If you add Gayle to our relegation squad you get Butland, Edwards, Cameron, Shawcross, Bruno, Pieters, Charlie, Allen, Bauer, Diouf, Bojan, Gayle... Etebo Lambert must have known that we were interested in too. You do start to wonder what might had been...

8 points off 6th though with half a season to go. 23 games to catch up 8 points It was absolute dire. We looked completely awful. He has a good core squad in our relegation squad and £50m and none of what he bought was what we needed. It was like sending out a kid to by ingredients for dinner and then just coming back with a load of sweets. This good core squad is a myth imo. We look awful now but without the points

Oh poor you. That thread was started after he'd had eight games in charge. Most Stoke fans are fair-minded people who will always give managers a chance.

A striker. You had a back four that managed to stop Liverpool scoring. They should needed some really key signings up front.

We all know the answer to this one. Rowett took every opportunity to criticise and belittle the supporters. The answer is that Rowett wasted the biggest budget in the Championship to make an already unbalanced squad even messier.

I know how to get promotion, let's hound every manager we have out of the door. Sure to work. To be perfectly honest, for hounding rowett out it's just deserts, wasnt doing a bad job was he, Gary? Just not playing bojan. Hound jones out, good luck with it if he does go I'll follow something else myself, fuck it. the fans are as poisonous os as the CEO. What happens if the next man doesn't hit the ground running or play the fans poster boy. Frankly, if we go down it's just deserts So it's the supporters fault we keep hiring wank managers who sign wank players ?

The concept that Rowett is a bit of a ‘git’ and Jones is a ‘nice bloke’ seems odd to me. Little or no difference for me - both desperate to do well , both thrashing around and clueless as to what went wrong. For what it’s worth Rowett always came across as the brighter of the two to me.

It’s always the way, Shawcross took so much stick on here last season and look how much we missed him. Who wasn’t happy that Bruno was back this week. Erik Pieters got the most crap on here but now we’ve got Stephen Ward we look a bit daft for whinging. When you’re having to watch Cuco Martina you realise we are lucky to have Edwards. Say what you want about Charlie but he proved last season that no-one can pass a ball like him. All well and good to whinge but if the manager fails to by anything better you’ll quickly start appreciating what you had.

Don't think there's a lot between them to be honest. I guess Rowett wasted a huge pot of money but then again he did pick up the odd point every now and then, even a win
Both have been disasterous appointments

It's interesting to take a look at both managers' stats as they both now have been leading Stoke for 26 league games. Rowett 26 games and 35 points, not good enough and he had to walk. Yes, I was one of those calling for his head because it wasn't good enough! Jones 26 games and 20 points! If this is good enough to keep his job I really don't understand anything as this is an average point per game that with certainty will take us down. He simply has to be replaced now before it's too late. With the state the club was in when Rowett picked it up I would say 35pts was a good return. He picked a team up that could not compete in a game of football at any level, we had won 1 game of competitive football in 2018 and also lost to tier 2/3 teams in the cup. I started a thread before the Brizzle game(after which Rowett was sacked) saying what a good job he was doing and got absolutely murdered for it. The team were steadily improving and he was challenging everything that was wrong at the club, including the egos that run our club - which is why they could not wait to pull the trigger. I to am baffled as to how a man was sacked for underperforming and we keep a man whos stats were twice as bad. They are just miles apart, Rowett was demanding money to spend on a left-back and competition for Pieters while NJ just came in and got rid of Pieters altogether and forgot to replace him - of course the board and the penny-pinchers are going to love a manager who gets rid of a high earner. The club was still in a bad way and in need of lots of rebuild from the ground up when Rowett was sacked - it was always going to take time. Who do they bring in but a man with virtually no managerial experience and none whatsoever at this level - it beggared fecking belief. Rowett should have been given time and had made a steady start in the rebuild - in the space of 2 windows we have gone from a team and a manager that at least was looking like showing a little ambition to a rank average championship team with mediocrity as a given and tier 3 football almost a certainty and once again, as per pre Rowett, a team that cannot compete in a game of football

Jones has taken it to a whole different level. He's been allowed to write off millions of pounds worth of assets in the bomb squad plus add his own players to an already bloated squad and has somehow managed to make everything much worse.

Berahino was forced plus the usual shitebags but thinking more Afobe to a rival, BMI isn't spotted much and Diouf has been treated pretty badly considering he did his best wingback impression for a couple of seasons. His power and pace should work in the diamond so his freezing out is bizarre.

There was no way back for him after that miserable display and the crowd’s reaction to it. If anything we persisted with him far too long. The idea of Diouf is lovely but on the rare occasions he plays he’s utterly wretched. BMI is a strange one though again I don’t think he’d have made an enormous difference to be honest.

It's all a bit bizarre - we spent a load on Afobe and sent him to a rival who seemed to have revived him fairly easily. It raises questions on why we can't get the best out of him and why we thought it was a good idea to give Bristol a go. Diouf's confidence must be shot to shit because he should be a beast in this league as his touch is less of an issue. No idea why we didn't persist to see if we could get a tune out of him rather than spending money on worse players. There was a story on an Aberdeen video I used to have where Fergie asked the chairman for money soon after arriving. Chairman told him he had 26 professional players on the books and he was employed to make a team out of it. Our squad should be more than enough to compete in the championship.

Rowett - knew the league but very limited and not the bloke to get you out of it. A total bellend too. Talks a good game but eventually got found out. Jones - Doesn't know the league, out of his depth at a big club. Seems a decent enough bloke. Talks a good game but eventually got found out. Rowett “eventually” got found out? He barely had time to settle before he was booted out of the door, a bit on an arsehole yes, but he didn’t get a fair chance here.

Nobody has been able to make much of a team out of the deadheads though have they? I'm not convinced Afobe is revived - he has one more goal than he did here this time last year, let's see how he's doing in a couple of months. Presumably we thought it was a good idea to give Bristol a go so we can claw something back for him - would you have persisted with him after his diabolical showings last season? Diouf has done absolutely nothing for about three years now. Sure he's a lovely guy, he's done well for us in the past but he's shown nothing recently to suggest he's what we need.
