It's genuinely fantastic that she is having such an effect.
It's also incredibly distressing that she has to keep doing it, and still we have not solved any problems. It is not child exploitation, it is an incredibly brave girl doing all she can to keep her species from killing itself.
That said, I hope she doesn't have to carry on doing it, and something is put together soon.

She held an emotional speech in front of the leaders. Did you see it? That was too much for her, she needs to be taken out of the limelight for a while, it was deeply disturbing

She held an emotional speech in front of the leaders. Did you see it? If that was your daughter would you be worried about her mental health? It's was a bit frightening actually, so yes. I know she's passionate and autistic people often tend to be that, and I like sincere passion and deep interest in things, so no problem with that. But I felt this was over the top, a bit too theatrical.

I thought the Thomas Cook news would have perked her up.

I know what she is doing is good but for me its gone on too long. She is being exploited and being dragged around the world constantly as a the voice for change. If that was your daughter would you be worried about her mental health? Unfortunately i think her message will eventually get lost and she will just be that kid protester. She looked genuinely distressed. I agree with DaveF on here, it's troubling. She is genuinely distressed!

Honestly, becoming the global face of this campaign would be a grim and difficult task for an experienced, media savvy 45 year old. For a 16 year old autistic kid to be thrust into the gladitorial arena like this is something that makes me extremely uncomfortable. I don't think this will end well.

Will these young people give up their throwaway iphones, ipads xboxes, laptops and other gadgets made in China, which has little choice but to emit toxic pollution in order to continually make this crap?
Will these young people give up buying cheap throwaway clothes?
Will they give up their fast-food junk diet, which has a massive impact on the planet, as well as its crappy packaging?
Will they accept a life with limited electricity, no holidays and no travel?
She needs to lecture them first because they have the buying power and that is the only way change will come. No leaders or corporations are going to change when you keep supporting them with your cash.
Nothing will happen through taking the moral high ground when they don't have it. Nor through virtue-signalling marches with banners and disrupting other people's lives.
The generation she appeals to are the worst generation ever for destroying the resources of the planet at a faster rate than ever - constantly replacing perfectly good and working products with newly manufactured ones.
They can start immediately by throwing their tech in the bin, refusing to travel, and getting their obese arses on a bike. Until then, their mass circle-jerk is meaningless. It is symptomatic of a generation that preaches more than ever for social media brownie points yet has nothing to offer but empty PC words and selfie-marches.

'Keep her species from killing itself' is incredibly charged language. This imminent doom was an apparent certainty in 1989. In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses have had fewer apocalyptic predictions. She's there to frighten other kids.

And give succour to the liberal, middle class hand wringers who really like the idea that it’s all down to nasty capitalists and right wing presidents and prime ministers while booking their two foreign holidays a year, driving their children to school who they’ve equipped with all the latest trendy gadgets and clothing.

Some aspects of modern environmental activism appeal to people's sense of bossiness the way it polices human behaviour and assumes the activist knows better. Do this not that, feel guilty, but above all: do as you're told. Some people cannot leave others alone. Constantly meddling. Pathological. A social disease. Mendicant says: if you want to drive a Scania to work, plug in a hurdy gurdy in your bedroom or leave the tap running while you brush your teeth then please yourself.

Greta Thunberg will get the Noble prize. She will. Which is bollocks as she's only a pawn doing and saying what she's being told. They need to reduce her role as the figurehead and start transferring the mantel to someone else now. Perhaps to a team of people who can absorb some of the pressure. She can still be the overall face of of the movement but others need to step in.

It's not about presenting a lot of stats and figures in every panel disussion or debate. Just like the two young girls on the tv news the same night here, both Thunberg fans. They expressed it emotionally, rather than statistically. Only refered to it as "the research".

She's there to frighten other kids. Albeit Greta has got a tad more scientific evidence available to back up her case than the Jehovah's witnesses have. If all she does is frighten other kids then she's failed. She needs to frighten an older generation with their hands on the levers of power. However they'll all be dead by the time we find out who's right and who's wrong so they don't give a fuck - and therein lies the problem.

Whether people like it or not those things will happen eventually if nothing changes. If people don't want to make a change to their own comfort and limit the damage to the planet then it will be forced on them or the next generation anyhow. It's not a case of 'if', it's a case of 'when'. People can throw whatever reasoning they want behind not acting now, but it will happen sooner or later. It really just depends on whether people/governments want to be proactive or reactive.
