Low-key quite content with this? Finally a bit of pace in the team. Biggest concern is though that him coming in signifies Jones is carrying on with the diamond..... Will be interesting to see if he's had a good pre-season fitness wise. Can't imagine he's played much for Villa. 61 minutes, scoring 1 goal

He’s a player I’ve always liked whenever I’ve seen him but he’s been ravaged by injury in recent years and dropped off the radar because of it. But if getting Gayle meant losing Etebo then I think I could deal with it. We suffer from a lack of chance creation, not from bad finishing ultimately.

We also suffer from goal shy forwards as far as I'm concerned. Our strike force is uninspiring and it isnt entirely down to the midfield.. the whole situation is a conundrum and it doesn't seem like successive managers know how to solve the puzzle.

I'd much rather have Etebo and Hogan than Gayle and lose Pete.

Not to mention how much Gayle would hamstring us with financial fairplay, he would basically mean we HAD to be promoted this season... Maybe not wise considering how our boys handle pressure

It’s not, but when you consider that Gayle in the seasons he has fluorished in the Championship has played with Matt Phillips, Matt Ritchie, Jay Rodriguez, Ayoze Perez and Jonjo Shelvey it implies he relies heavily on service. He’s hardly a complete striker capable of forging out his own chances from what I’ve seen of him.

At least Hogan is quick 😂 I will only be ok with this signing, if CAMPBELL STAYS PUT.

What is the point of this signing? I'd rather we give Campbell a chance. Hogan has had one good season. One. An they all look like close range goals, I'm not seeing the pace and physicality we are missing. [br Same here mate, I'd rather Campbell the chance. It's now uber clear to see that Jones if signing Hogan doesn't want to give Tyrese the chance. He'll go on loan and we'll be fucked off with him again. If we sign another CB as well and then loan Collins and Campbell, I am going to be one extremely angry human being. I will make Adolf Hitler look like the patron saint of world peace. I'd rather us sign someone that has shown he can score goals at this level, I'd like to see Campbell given a few chances too but if promotion is the aim then he isn't the answer as it stands, hopefully he sticks around and gets a few mins now and then but sod relying on him. Why would we be loaning Collins out, we only have 3 CBs Jones is willing to use.

Loaned to Sheffield United in January, 2 goals in 8 games. No better than what we have,
Unless he was injured, he wasn’t deemed good enough for a regular start in a promotion winning side. Why bother.
Looks like no Dwight if true.

Still you’ve got to ask why. And then the season he barely played, they go up. Coincidence I know but still amusing.

Amazingly, even less inspiring than the two strikers that we started with on Saturday!

The jury is out on both Afobe and Campbell for me so we need another striker. If we’ve turned to Hogan then I would assume that Gayle is too expensive. If he hasn’t lost his pace due to his injuries then he could be a shrewd signing.

Almost certainly nothing in it - but Izzy Brown is a strange link. Isn't he a Number 10-type?

But I can't see how he could get loads of game time if he's a specialist Plan B? Even as back-up to Powell and first-choice game-changing sub, not sure there'd b enough time to keep him truly happy - given how he sees himself? If he's constantly needed to change games off the bench, we certainly won't be having a very good season! (could be moot anyway as the Brown link is probably complete fiction)

Aren’t Wilder and Jones good mates (in managerial terms)? I’m sure NJ will have got the inside track on Hogan’s training and general play.
He looks a gamble on paper but could be one that pays off. His goals per minutes played ratio is really not bad at all.

I used to work with his cousin during that purple patch and let it be known, his cousin was one of the thickest people I’ve ever met. That alone is putting me off.

i don't know much about him. Gets my backing if he plays.
However, i don't want to to see Campbell pushed further down the pecking order.
