Yeah. Seems to have had a nasty groin injury at the start of last season at Villa, then struggled to make any impression after that. But there didn't seem to be any more injuries at least. Not blown away by this one, but if it means no Afobe, I'll see the glass as half full. If he's got pace, that's something. And anyone who's had a run of 21 in 27 in this league must have something. But do you think it WILL mean no Afobe? I don't. I think so. He did speak of Vokes and Gregory as his target men (even though I don't think that's 100% accurate for gregory) and Afobe and Campbell as his "electric pace" men (haha) So won't he be looking to partner Hogan up with Vokes/Gregory which will mean Campbell loaned and Afobe behind Hogan in the pecking order? Hogan hasn't come to sit on the bench has he?

7 goals in 56 is absolutely atrocious. Think I may go lay down and cry for a while.

The video collection looks good, but then so does any other players. What strikes me from it though is that we can’t pass two fuckin yards without giving it to the opposition or one of ours mis controlling, so heaven knows how we would find him as he seems to thrive on canny passes. Hope it works out, but our team is a million miles away from giving him that type of service. That's my concern.

I don't see the point of bringing Hogan in if as a result we then lose Campbell.

It’s a truism- but you won’t score in the Championship if you are on loan to a division 1 club. I’ve seen enough of Afobe to know he will not become a serious goal scorer at Stoke, and Vokes looked totally out of form against QPR- if we are not putting crosses into the box, Vokes won’t score 6. Give Campbell the same opportunities and then we will know. True that. We don't know until he is given a real go. Then again we don't know if he'd hit it off in the Champioship so we need options.. it would be stupid pin all hopes on a player who is basicly still a rookie at this level. I agree- but like many I think that if Hogan comes in, it is one of Afobe or Vokes who should be left out / loaned with Campbell being given starts as and when, and a place on the subs bench from which he can get 30 minutes which may change a game. If we don’t get crosses into the box, Vokes threat almost totally disappears, and for whatever reason Afobe is never going to succeed at Stoke.

But Jones' evaluations are the only ones that count and every bit of praise for Campbell is mealy-mouthed and you can see he doesn't think he's the answer. I'd much rather keep him than Afobe, but who on earth is going to take Afobe off our hands? As soon as we knew Jones was pursuing a striker, if we got one, it was always likely it'd be Tyrese making way.

So we're just going to keep taking on more strikers, in the hope that one eventually comes good? Recruitment 101.

If it was Gayle then I could live with it as his recent record would make it worthwhile but comparing Hogan to Campbell, then I certainly don't think that Hogan screams out as being a much more sure thing than Tyrese at all.

This nailed on means a League 1 loan for him if Hogan comes in. It's the only way he is going to put Afobe under any serious pressure. I think we are saying hello to a starter here.

I agree. But I haven't heard much to suggest Campbell was anything more than a solid No.4 in his mind as it stands anyway. After his Villa spell, Hogan is definitely just a maybe now. Any player with that length of time plumbing the depths of mediocrity automatically is. One more to throw on the growing pile of maybes. But either we haven't got the cash or inclination to spread the net beyond this narrow list of domestic targets.

Dunner know too much about him tbh although I recall he’s got some ok pace and likes to carry the ball.
Not scored many at this level although a goal every 188 mins played isn’t a terrible return, is it? Not managed to hold down a starting place at Villa or Sheff U is a bit of a concern.

Two cruciate injuries to the same knee is a bit of a worry. On top of that he’s had one good season in five at this level!
If Jones is a long term appointment we should really be focusing on signing the best prospects from the lower leagues and abroad and building a team around a set of improving players. Loaning average players on high wages that don’t have the quality to fire us to promotion just seems a massive waste of money.
Edit: Seen a few articles claiming he has pace, so at least that’s something to cling to!

Low-key quite content with this?
Finally a bit of pace in the team.
Biggest concern is though that him coming in signifies Jones is carrying on with the diamond.....
Will be interesting to see if he's had a good pre-season fitness wise. Can't imagine he's played much for Villa.

Actually think he could be really good for us IF the midfield decide to actually play football, but then again, if they sorted their shit out anytime soon, Afobe and Vokes might start scoring too

Why don’t we just play Campbell, who is quicker and his knee isn’t likely to explode.
And, here’s the thing.
It wouldn’t cost us any money
Nothing surprises me at this shitshow of a “club” anymore, we probably patch water leaks up with wads of £20 notes.
