Saying he wants a young squad doesn’t mean he can’t sign older players. He’s also signed younger players as well .... If McClean doesn’t come off then Jones will rightly cop some stick for it but he could still be a success as a LB. Bojan .... it was the right thing to do in my opinion, clearly his opinion of Bojan changed over a period of time. It’s a bit silly to hold things like this against him. It’s silly to expect his actions to match his words? Maybe you can see some reasons for his actions not matching up to his words but it doesn’t change the fact that, to be frank, he seems to talk complete and utter shite Most of his signings have been younger ones so I disagree that his actions haven’t matched his words in that respect. The others he’s entitled to change his mind on. If you think a manager has to rigidly stick to everything he says then that’s on you but it’s a naive position to take.

I can’t see Gayle staying at Newcastle but it seems crazy that he’d come here so late in the window. Probably rock up at Leeds

Surely can only be a loan with view to buy at this late stage, no way stoke would not have had a medical for a cash buy, hoping his medical has been done up there

West Brom signing Austin and Leeds signing Nketiah so you'd imagine lost interest in Gayle.

Fast exciting football- slow and plodding- as better observers than me pointed out the first game of the season seemed like the 47th of the previous. Full back is a specialist position in the Diamond- so we use a left winger. A CDM ( again crucial to his system) that has not played in that position for his previous club- so he goes on the fact that when he last had him ( some 3 years previous) he did well? Most recently- we lacked pace and energy for 60 minutes; when was the change made - 70+ minutes. Got to give him more than one game this season before judging him on the fast football comment. As mentioned in a previous post McClean at LB is a big call and Jones will rightly cop stick if it doesn’t work. Same goes for Cousins. Your last point seems very pedantic. Pedantic? If you say so. One man had the capability to make the change that would have altered the lack of energy- managers who actually have a plan take decisive action - Klopp and Mourinho would ( if they saw something similar) have had no hesitation in making the change as soon as they saw it as being necessary-Jones highlighted the problem and did nothing. Again, it isn’t the fact that it’s the first game is it- as Martin Smith pointed out, it seemed like a continuation of his previous 20 odd games; and despite telling everyone that it’s “his” squad , “his” team, 8 of the starters were people that he has picked regularly since he got here and they looked totally without direction or idea. What is it that he is trying to do, because I can only see The Emporor’s New Clothes in him. I would like him to be successful because we cannot change managers every 6 months, but I am pretty convinced it will get worse before it gets better with Jones.

Year after year we are linked with players of higher profile we don’t deny so presumably we chase all summer and don’t deliver but instead go for a sea of mediocrity Hours to go and be I’d say this is the worst window of the lot , confirming the downgrading of the Squad , showing neither joined up focused recruitment or creativity .
The common denominator of course isn’t the manager we’ve done it window after window manager after manager

Gayle could be staying at Newcastle, even though Andy Carroll's been spotted moving his furniture into the St.James's park treatment room.
