The coverage has been superb.....and quite rightly so. The Queen was spot on about her generation and resilience. Respect and thanks to these old soldiers. I managed to re watch Band of Brothers last week to get me in the mood and I’ve got plans to watch The Longest Day and Saving Private Ryan later.

We should all be very proud of them and immensely grateful for their courage and sacrifice.
Today's world is a real mess, but it would have been a much darker place without their bravery and determination.

Got a lump in my throat looking through the photos of the veterans sitting proudly in their uniforms today. I wish i could shake the hand of every one of them.

I saw it this morning, he was superb, and a real hero but very humble saying "he was lucky". Even Naga Munchetty looked like she was filling up when she finished the interview. She shook Harry's hand and said it was an honour to meet him, but she was almost in tears.

We should cherish these veterans they get fewer by the day, sadly we have scum who have and would throw milkshakes over them, I lost my granddad in WWII never met him but I now live in the village where his name is engraved on the cenotaph in the church yard, every time I see it I feel immense pride and sadness that he left seven children without a dad, he died for what so that the country could be over run with the dregs of the earth, they gave their lives to secure democracy and freedom which we have now destroyed for the wishes of the minority.

Crikey! Who is chucking or wants to chuck milkshakes over WWII veterans?! They fought the far-right didn’t they? You’d think they’d be on the same side as the lefty milkshake chuckers. That’s disgraceful!

She shook Harry's hand and said it was an honour to meet him, but she was almost in tears. I'm not fan of Naga and my heart sank when I saw her presenting this today but she was superb! She seemed to be fighting back the tears most of the programme. We can denigrate the Beeb but on these occasions, like yesterday and today, no one does it better. All the Veterans are brilliant and so humble. It's very emotional watching them reflecting and wiping tears away.

I have my grandad's medals from World War One. He IMHO was the loveliest bloke you could wish to meet. He looked after me a lot as a young lad, but I never heard him mention anything about the war. They were brave men with decency at their hearts, and yes we will never forget. Some of the swines about in this world today, should take a serious look at themselves no doubt. No doubt at all. P.S. I'm sorry for not talking about the D. Day landings on this, but I immediately thought of my grandad, when I saw the thread. Apologies again for getting my wires crossed! Also my father was a leading aircraftsman for the R.A.F. during World War Two. I also have his medals.

I have my Dads Uncles medals from Burma, he was captured and tortured losing toes from each foot, he never complained never mentioned then atrocities, was a miner before the war never returned to work after he died in virtual poverty, my Dad fought in the Korean War I have his medals as well, again he never mentioned the action he had been involved in until he was struck down with Alzheimer's when he became quite lucid in his memories from his service days, both were absolute gentlemen people who deserved and earned respect.

For my family I only had one member involved directly in D-Day with the paras. Rest of my lot were in Italy and India. Best response I ever got from one of my uncles about what he did in the war in Burma was “As little as possible them japs were mad and I didn’t fancy dying young”, his younger brother did D-day and Arnhem and used to them rib him about what he did in the war as he was in the RAF but the respect was always there as when they were needed they didn’t hide they stood and they gave more than the majority ever will.

I worry today we just don't seem to have courage to endure anymore. I know our armed forces are second to none but they are a limited supply. God forbid we need such men again to fight for our country in the future because our youth just don't have the same kind of honour and pride.

Agree to a degree mate, but modern warfare you are very unlikely to get close physically to your enemy, you are more likely to be taken out by a drone operated from a bunker several 1000 miles away than be shot by a soldier.
