Never knew there was TV footage of this.
Durban was awesome. The most underrated Stoke manager in my lifetime. Wished we could have kept him.

Never knew there was TV footage of this. Durban was awesome. The most underrated Stoke manager in my lifetime. Wished we could have kept him. I remember sitting by Alan Durban when he attended the 150 years anniversary game against Tottenham - I was incredibly impressed with his reading of the game, as he had a young teenager with him and was explaining things to him as play developed. A great insite into how real football people look at games

Blimey that’s a nightmare I never thought I would have a chance to re-live ! I remember the sense of injustice walking away from the ground to this day.

Midst of time this- but I seem to recall him being ref at Villa in 81 or 82 and gave some pretty dubious decisions in a 2-2 draw- memorable for the sprint by about 500 youths to get to the players tunnel to off load what ever was in their pockets ( or mouths) as he left the pitch...or did we have another one just like him (surely impossible)

McNally really did have it in for us that day and along with Mr Lynch and Mr Hall they’re the 3 worst refereeing performances I’ve ever witnessed watching Stoke

This game made Burnleys list of top 100 moments (number 95) because of McNally's performance as a ref. Clarets 100 Great Moments

I remember that trip to Turf Moor on the service train. Most corrupt refereeing performance I have ever seen. I think the ref had been watching Kez.

Jesus...what a ref!
Nice chant of "bastards....bastards....." at the end summed it up

I remember the sense of injustice walking away from the ground to this day. Me too - and then my mate got bitten by a police dog on the walk back to the car.

The 1st time I've seen that....well apart from actually watching the game live. It hasn't improved my memory of it lol

Didn't know a very young Vince Overson played against us that day until watching that. And Lee Dixon? That was Paul Dixon (I think) Couple of years too early for Lee. Looks like the rumour of our player getting sent off for “sarcasm” was true after all 😂. Great footage, loved it.

Adrian Heath had a good game playing wide on the only grassy part of the muddy pitch.

I stand corrected,my friend. It was Paul not Lee Dixon. Who also played for us. I still remember the miserable traffic and weather heading back home from that. We could do with a Micky Doyle and an inchy in the team now.

Crooks misskick at the end ! It was the mud 😉 We had many chances,it was just one of those days....the penalty wasn't even a foul. If I remember correctly the previous season we went there and won 3 nil. I recall getting pelted with coins from the Burnley fans next to us but looking at the video there was a wide segregated area, they must have some good throwers in Burnley ☺️....else they widened the area for the cup match and the pelting was in the 3 nil game.

McNally was jailed for (non-football-related) fraud, in the late 80s or early 90s as I remember it.

Mr Lynch certainly helped us beat Bristol City at Wembley
Ball was moving when Bjarni took the free kick, and he hadnt even blown his whistle for it to be taken when Thorney scored
For that reason only, he was ok [ for one day]

It wouldn’t surprise me if there was more vintage Stoke footage in the ITV archive. ITV in those days was regional, so there was more chance of a local club being televised. Compared to the BBC, ITV is a lot more shy about showing its old football footage.
