I know it's unsurprising that he's apparently challenging the decision but it still really pissed me off to read that. He's dragged the club's name through the dirt, performed patheticly on the pitch and this should be his comeuppance but no, he's determined to try and suck every penny he can out of our club before he goes.
Fuck off Saido, you're an embarrassment and everyone at Stoke will be glad to see the back of you.

Sacking him doesn't feel like enough, but don't suppose Stoke will pursue a legal case against him. ....But its a good day. His wages will be very handy.
And now we can spend a couple of years tracking his demise through the lower leagues and non-leagues, via the odd stint in prison, to ending up as a lonely, overweight sloth in a urine soaked bedsit.

Lets be honest we are trying to sack him because he hasn't been very good if he had scored 20 goals last season we wouldn't care less what he had done.
Considering the club signed him knowing of a drug ban I don't see this being allowed and to be honest despite him being a bit of a twat it shouldn't be if clubs can't start sacking playersfor being crap.

"Ready to", of course we are, "want to" of course we do, "told him we are planning to" of course we would.
But can we and have we, and will his lawyers take it lying down?
I'm not sure that is clear from either article. I reckon this still has a way to go.
We want to sack him because he was an extremely poor buy, and we have lost wheel barrows full of pound notes on his transfer fee and wages and this is our excuse. Not because he drove his car under duress with alcohol in his blood stream. As others have said we'd cut him some slack on that one if he was banging on goals on a regular basis.

"Ready to", of course we are, "want to" of course we do. But can we and have we? I'm not sure that is clear from either article, not yet anyway. Stoke City have informed £12million striker Saido Berahino they are cancelling his contract following his conviction earlier this month for drink-driving. City have taken the action... While stressing it'll be challenged, both articles are pretty definitive that the wheels are in motion, and presumably informed by the best legal advice BET 365's money can buy after lots of deliberation?

I think the only action we have taken is to inform him of what we are planning to do. It sounds like his lawyers will for sure challenge this, I presume the outcome from there will be that he will leave the club but some compromise will be reached, which we never learn much about, where in reality we pay up a significant part of his wages for the remainder of his contract. I'm not a lawyer but I've been around a long time and that is how these things seem to play themselves out.

Excellent decision by the club.
There is no excuse for drink driving these days. Between 1979 and 2014 an average of 666 people were killed in drink driving related accidents in Great Britain each year.
An average of 3,551 people were seriously injured in drink driving related accidents in Great Britain each year.

Agree or not the club should be applauded for taking a definitive stance and sticking too it . The boy clearly isn’t part of jones plan and the club have supported him in under writing a material asset loss on a point of principal . Agree or not i find that difficult to do anything but support and give credit for the clubs conviction .pardon the pun .

I hope he does end up in turkey if he thinks we give him a hard time wait until he upsets the nut job ultras at gala or fenebache even though its more than likely his agent talking bullshit.

And it sounds like the club's lawyers have told them their case has merit and that has given them confidence to at least move forward. No doubt just how shaky the ground we think we're on will determine how open to a pay-off we are, and what chunk of that £6m we're comfortable giving him to make him disappear. Although the difference between nowt and that £6m (?) he's got left on his contract is definitely worth fighting for from his point of view. Because his next club could well be Goldenhill Wanderers!

The kind of questions his lawyers will respond with are
"Send us a list of Stoke City players in the modern era caught drink driving and tell us what action action was taken for each?"
We'll have to answer or be in contempt of court and the answer will be a very small number and no action was taken.
At that point they cry 'discrimination', 'you just want him out because you bought a talented player you didn't know what to do with'.
He'll still have to leave for the benefit of both parties but the private compensation negotiations will begin.

It's kind of a weird time of day for that kind of story to have been leaked. There hasn't been an official statement from the club, and there may not be one until Monday at the earliest. I can't imagine any other source for the leak than Saddo himself.

You’d hope our lawyers would also point out how SBs situation is unique. - the unprecedented personal support to help SB overcome personal challenges - the club tolerating countless misdemeanours - the heightened expectations on senior footballers to be role models, since other cases in the past. - after he’d been caught he also lied to the police, and clearly showed a lack of both remorse and respect by the foul language he used at the time and the subsequent twitter posts. - irrespective of the drink driving offence, he was drunk less than 24hrs from a game, breaking club rules and terms of contract.

Any chance of us following up now with the Mutu/Chelsea precedent for lost transfer value etc? Potentially, however I expect the outcome of this will be “Here’s 75% of your remaining wages Saido, the doors there, now fuck off”. The club wash their hands of him, he’s free to continue his downward spiral into bankruptcy, win win.

There's surely a lot more we can throw at him than just the driving offence- not a week goes by when he isn't flouting some rule or other with his poor timekeeping and shitty attitude. Good luck to whoever's stupid enough to sign him next. Absolute waste of oxygen that he is.
