We've been heading down bank as far back as I can remember
You mean the Labour government who, when they got voted out, left a note in the treasury saying "Sorry, I'm afraid there's no money left" and who sold our gold reserves when gold was at it's lowest price only to then spunk that money up the wall too? Or do you mean the Labour government who did away with discipline in schools which in turn led to the current infestation of feral cunts running around robbing and stabbing people?
In autumn 2018, Alston did a two-week fact-finding tour of the United Kingdom where he met with people living in poverty, spoke with civil society front line workers, work coaches, and local, devolved and UK governments, "and visited community organisations, social housing, a Jobcentre, a food bank, an advice center, a library, and a primary school."[16] He met with politicians from all major political parties, Welsh and central government ministers and Scotland's First Minister. In a statement released on 16 November he said for almost half of the nation's children to be poor today is "not just a disgrace, but a social calamity and an economic disaster, all rolled into one", the government's approach to poverty is not guided by economics but "a commitment to achieving radical social re-engineering", and the government should adopt policies that ensure the poor do not have to shoulder the largest share of the ongoing financial burden to the nation arising from Brexit.[17][16]
All from a two week fact finding tour bloke is a genius, he can probably sort Brexit out for us in a couple of months if we ask . Wales and Scotland don't have Tory governments why are they getting a mention surely they live in the land of milk and honey.
By the way Momo if you believe all this is true I assume you will be slamming Corbyn for wanting to priortise middle class kids getting free uni education, if things are as bad as they say surely the resources are better used elsewhere ?
I had an argument with my student daughter about labour paying off student debt, as I tried to explain no matter what she would still have to pay it, because taxes or cuts to something would have to pay for it!
Yep basically the kid who gets a job in tesco gets to pay tax to send Prince George to uni for free imagine the outrage if the tories suggested such a policy !!!
This report has been doing the rounds for a while - it's a heap of shit.
Yes you know its bad when even Labour party fanboy Lewis Goodall explains on Sky that actually nothing much has really changed in the last 20 years but yeah austerity, the tories blah de blah.

My daughter looks like she is going to get a first I couldn’t be more proud. However, as I have pointed out she still has to pay her way she has gone to uni because she had the potential to do well her degree (biomedical science) should open doors to better jobs as she is potentially doing a phd. To me that means she should pay her way not expect somebody else to do it and potentially it’s someone earning less than her who is paying the same equivalent but never went near uni 🤷♂️

I'm just surprised that it took him two weeks to be honest. Just a little walk sound our inner city areas would have given him all the evidence he needed in 10 minutes flat!
A nice duck of the question there Momo, Labour were only too happy to declare a climate emergency the other week, here you have a UN report saying the poor are being socially re-engineered and zip from Corbyn, come on surely they just have to drop the free unicorns and use the make believe money to pay for this if its as bad as this guy says ?

I agree with you, its terribly unfair that kids have to pay but effectively taxing them on how much they earn afterwards is about as fair as it could be and I speak as someone who got free tuition and about £190 a term grant but then I have always said I would be happy if they decided to tax those of us who got it for free. This was a problem all governments ignored for many years sent kids to uni to do marketing, earth and life studies and various other useless courses to keep them out of unemployment figures, they all ignored the pensions problem same thing happened everyone gets fucked. Social care is the next one, those that have tried to do something get death tax, dementia tax shouted at them and lose at the polls....
A leading United Nations poverty expert has compared Conservative welfare policies to the creation of 19th-century workhouses and warned that unless austerity is ended, the UK’s poorest people face lives that are “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short”
"He accused the Government of the “systematic immiseration of a significant part of the British population”.
"The “endlessly repeated” mantra about rising employment overlooks that “close to 40% of children are predicted to be living in poverty two years from now, 16% of people over 65 live in relative poverty and millions of those who are in work are dependent upon various forms of charity to cope”
“It might seem to some observers that the department of work and pensions has been tasked with designing a digital and sanitised version of the 19th-century workhouse, made infamous by Charles Dickens.”
The report slams the government’s austerity programme, with criticisms of “shocking” rises in the use of food banks and rough sleeping, falling life expectancy for some, the “decimation” of legal aid, the denial of benefits to the severely disabled, falling teachers’ salaries in real terms and the impoverishment of single mothers and people with mental illness.
Alston said austerity had “deliberately gutted” local authorities, shrinking library, youth, police and park services to the extent that it was not surprising there were “unheard-of levels of loneliness and isolation”.
Good fucking God, when everyone has eventually finished their Brexit wank, this Government needs a Socialist Government to right the wrongs of this evil and wicked bunch of Tory tosspots.
A bit like venuzeula where they are having to eat their pets to survive?
We need a centre ground party who is tough on crime, tax avoidance, and can fund services correctly without bankrupting the country again, too much left, then right has fooked us over
Venezuela is an example of socialism done poorly. The USA is an example of capitalism done poorly. Both have people dying on the streets, without access to any social care or livelihood.
The main difference is that socialism in itself is based on something that is theoretically more moral. It is based on the need for all human beings to be given the basics, food, clothing and housing. Capitalism is based mainly on how well you can take advantage of others, whether they live or die.

Students who have to get a real job end up voting Conservative!
As a student who is now in a real job (I'd add that calling teaching, lecturing or research not a real job is a humongous pile of bollocks), I've swung further and further left the more I've seen of the world. I was skint throughout uni, and only now have any money to my name. Now I'm socialist.
What is actually a very well researched point however, is that politics is genuinely correlated exceptionally closely with education. Those who have higher levels of education are far more likely to be left voting. Not that it means anything, because statistics can show anything, but ruins your second point slightly!

True Socialism relies on altruism that everybody wants to help everybody and wants nothing more than anybody else in return. That is a difficult concept to fathom

Fucking teachers. I shit em
You are slipping that was an open goal to mention the teachers holidays
What you've written is just heartless cobblers, poor hating bollocks from a right wing fucking pillock. Most benefits go to people in work. Why's that SB?
Someone once told me that Labour voters, when kids, prefer the granddad that gives them sweets every time they visit whereas Tory kids prefer the granddad that saves the sweet money to help them out when they're older. Labour kids think that the granddad that saves their money is a wanker.
That was your Tory voting grumpy ass grandad that mate.

Theres an interesting white paper written by the governor of the Bank of England that says the opposite. They printed money to bail out of the banks and it caused zero inflation. So why not student debt or other personal loans?
The classical theory of inflation and money supply has been debunked in recent history but we still believe these non truths

This is an updated and final version released today...….. that confirms all Tories are heartless cunts!
Anyway has the Tory Party once of the Iron Lady still not managed to get rid of the Iron Limpet yet? Jesus! Which one of these incompetent arse rings is fit to take over?
You are slipping that was an open goal to mention the teachers holidays
😂😂
Still fair play to the lad for going into public service and teaching when he left uni, obviously if he passed his course he would have had more options but good on him

It all has to come from somewhere we increase the float here and as a country it’s not an issue but it devalues us against the $€¥ and then reduces trade in because of price or mugs us off on trade out. Zimbabwe and Venezuela both in the past decade have had their currency’s wipes out internationaly ruining their economy, and you can’t say somebody is to big to fail look at Greece, Italy and Portugal all needing economic bailouts. All of this is mainly due to rogue trading in currency and worldwide confidence in the nations currency, print an extra trillion pounds to solve a crisis internally we didn’t need to make like wiping out student debt and it will have major ripples in the future.

It's selective and biased. It plays to inherent prejudices - which is why the likes of Momo wank themselves over it.
Ask yourself a question - if this country was as shite as the report suggests, why do so many people come to live here. And I'm not talking about asylum seekers or economic refugees, but people from non-EU8 countries.
While this country has many problems and much needs to be done, there is a whole lot of good stuff going on. Exaggerated silliness like this report serves no helpful purpose.

It's a report on human rights though, and how the poor and disadvantaged are faring in this country right now. I'm sure there's a report on how wonderful life is for the top 5% somewhere.
Anyway, about that 5000%+ rise in food banks in the last ten years...

Well how much did you think it was going to cost to right the wrongs of two decades of Tory malaise. Truth is that it’s well known that chancellors have always left “cheeky” notes to the incumbent over the years, but that one was leaked. Never get involved with Tories, they’re snidely b@$t@&d$

Yes when those nasty bastard tories stopped preventing job centres etc referring hungry people to food banks as was Labour policy you mean ?

Ah... foodbanks. The much misunderstood (and abused) indicator of poverty.
All that article proves is the failure of Capitalism and the wickedness of the country and world we live in.
Fucking hell cheer up mate it's almost the weekend.
So foodbanks ran by volunteers, donated to by the general public shows the wickedness of the country. I will bear that in mind next time I drop in a donation but its good to know that I am still wicked because as I just voted brexit party I might not be an evil bastard tory any longer
I mean it might just be me but I thought people helping other people shows the best of the country, you can make the argument about the government funding all this by increasing taxes which I am quite happy to pay for but I actually think charities do this better because as soon as the government gets involved there's a nice little wage involved and then before you know it they are spending more on pensions, diversity training, converting the toilets to be transgender etc etc etc then they are on food to give out to people.

When charity becomes a mainstream way stopping the poor starving of letting the rich get richer, I think our priorities have become a bit skewed mate! It's fucking medieval1!

So, what is your alternative?
Who, but an entrepreneur is going to start the business that employs people and payes them a wage?
Who is going to ensure that the business runs sufficiently efficiently so that it makes a profit, possibly to enable it to expand and invest even more in its workforce?
Who is going to put their house on the line, or risk their and their family’s financial well being to give the banks and other financial institutions the guarantees they require before they will lend the money to help fund this expansion?
Who is going to go out to work for this business for a wage if they can see friends or neighbours living well on free money they are being given by the state?
And where is the state getting all this money from if it is not from entrepreneurs, their businesses and all their employees paying taxes (which they wouldn’t have to pay if they didn’t have a job and pay taxes, the selfish bastards!)?
And, finally, why should the people above, particularly the people who take the greatest risk, not be generously rewarded for creating all these jobs, and all this wealth? And if they don't do it, who will?
What is your alternative to capitalism and please point to where in the world your system is operating successfully?
