So still no comment then about the pain and suffering caused by this wicked and pernicious Government.? No surprise. Talking of money in the pot, it's interesting to note that whilst all this is going on, the average disposable income of the richest fifth of households, increased by 7.5%. Interesting that theres plenty of money floating about somewhere isn't it. As I’m sure you are aware, there are many ways to define or calculate “poverty” many of which are related to a median measurement of average household income. So, if incomes go up for above average earners (or even high wage earners), the median income goes up and so more people can be defined as being in “poverty” but it doesn’t mean that anyone is actually any worse off. FWIW, I’ve just returned from spending a few days in India. I met people who would laugh at the idea of all this so called poverty in the UK. Get real.

Now, what idiots like you pick up on is the people that haven't the fucking sense to manage their spending. We can't give these people more money because the people who aren't fuckwitts would ask why they aren't getting more too. if ever you need, any justification for calling Tory voters, heartless fucking tosspots, selfish inward looking wankstains, without an ounce of compassion in their soul free existence for their fellow man, then squareball never fails to deliver. I should introduce you to my 90 years old mum who lives in what people like you would define as poverty (although she herself wouldn't). She votes Tory, but your description above doesn't really fit her. (in fact, if I'm honest, it is quite the opposite to her)

Talking of money in the pot, it's interesting to note that whilst all this is going on, the average disposable income of the richest fifth of households, increased by 7.5%. Interesting that theres plenty of money floating about somewhere isn't it. The government and our welfare services know that the benefits and earnings cover costs for families and the like - whether they're working or not. Benefits are based on many years of checks, tests and real world costs. Some people however are incapable of managing their lives and spending whilst others, on the same income, manage without difficulty. Now, what idiots like you pick up on is the people that haven't the fucking sense to manage their spending. We can't give these people more money because the people who aren't fuckwitts would ask why they aren't getting more too. Any attempt to manage people's spending is seen as interfering by the comical left. Another example is the blarting about nurses having to use food banks. Only a complete fucking moron would believe that a nurse's income is so bad that they have to use food banks. It isn't. The nurses, and many other people using food banks, couldn't run a bath and to be honest should be sacked. What sort of nurse is so stupid that they have to use a food bank? Now, there are people who fall on hard times because they've made piss poor decisions in life but we shouldn't bail these people out because it'd be seen as a green light for everyone to fuck about and expect the state to sort them out. There are also people who are generally fucking unlucky and these are the people that we need to help. Unfortunately these people are lost in the sea of hopeless wankers that have ruined our welfare services for decades. Give it a fucking rest. It's as tiresome now as it's been for decades with the likes of Labour voting arses. When my mum was in hospital for 3 months last year, one nurse changing the next bed along had to stop for a breather halfway through as she was that fat. When mum went to the rehab place near Vale Park, a young girl in the next bed was paralised waist down like my mum had been, dcos didnt know what was wrong with her, her mum and brother came in, both hideously fat, feeding the girl take away pizzas, coke and crisps. Mum and brother drove away from a disabled parking bay in a mini, no doubt free off the state. They had been moaning that they have lost their daughters income and were using food banks, the pizzas were a treat, the daughters job was a carer to her fat mum ..... There are genuine cases out there who need help, and some I feel genuinely sorry for, but as you say, there are many lazy fookers out there who need to make the right decisions. Some of the people you saw on the TV using food banks maybe should have made better choices like eating less and moving more, making themselves presentable and available to get a job and keep one. How can we have nearly a million empty positions and needing foodbanks, maybe those that want help need to be retrained, but are they willing to do that ?

Sheikh
I've not had a chance to look at this in detail but have heard it discussed on the radio. First impressions for me are.
There's quite a lot I agree with, the powerless and disenfranchised are getting a raw deal but we also need to support our innovators and entrepreneurs to help to create wealth and jobs. We don't need to punish them. We certainly need to distribute wealth more equitably and give incentives for the disadvantaged to have ak meaningful life. We need policies that do protect workers and the genuinely vulnerable but also discourage a benefits lifestyle choice.
BUT for me what is equally concerning and needs attention and I believe is totally ignored ( by politicians and socialists) in this country....the changing nature of work , the impact of the internet ( as big as the industrial revolution) and therefore the power of the multinationals. It certainly contributes to the isolation mentioned in the report. It seems to me that we have a group of faceless people at the top of some organisations( Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Virgin Samsung etc etc, ) who yield great power and influence and at the bottom there are a large number of people who are needed , doing repetitive jobs , largely service, on low wages, low quality of life, little opportunity to improve and move on, making the system work....call centres , distribution warehouses, Macdonalds ..... Really a replication of the factories of Victorian England....We all seem to like the benefits of this modern society but are oblivious to the cost. I don't think the old Labour/ Tory divide is the answer, probably part of the problem.

When every fucker stops wanting to come here because the quality of life is better in their own country, then I will start to believe what the UN and the poverty and oppressed experts put out. Maybe while I’m waiting they could go to places like Venezuela, North Korea, India, Pakistan and several of the Eastern European and other African states and preach to them first? I was about to ask how many other countries has this bloke visited and done a report on.

No comment on the actual substance of the article then where the UN identifies major suffering and poverty in the fifth richest economy in the world, poverty caused by direct Political choice of austerity. This Government has blood on its hands. I n autumn 2018, Alston did a two-week fact-finding tour of the United Kingdom where he met with people living in poverty, spoke with civil society front line workers, work coaches, and local, devolved and UK governments, "and visited community organisations, social housing, a Jobcentre, a food bank, an advice center, a library, and a primary school."[16] He met with politicians from all major political parties, Welsh and central government ministers and Scotland's First Minister. In a statement released on 16 November he said for almost half of the nation's children to be poor today is "not just a disgrace, but a social calamity and an economic disaster, all rolled into one", the government's approach to poverty is not guided by economics but "a commitment to achieving radical social re-engineering", and the government should adopt policies that ensure the poor do not have to shoulder the largest share of the ongoing financial burden to the nation arising from Brexit.[17][16] All from a two week fact finding tour bloke is a genius, he can probably sort Brexit out for us in a couple of months if we ask . Wales and Scotland don't have Tory governments why are they getting a mention surely they live in the land of milk and honey. By the way Momo if you believe all this is true I assume you will be slamming Corbyn for wanting to priortise middle class kids getting free uni education, if things are as bad as they say surely the resources are better used elsewhere ?

In terms of absolute poverty, that is the measure of how many people are literally starving or making less than $1.90 a day, we come out well. But in terms of relative poverty, that is to say those in poverty earning less than 60% the median national wage we come out very poorly. What the report basically summarises is that there is no reason for such inequalities to exist in terms of income, education, general happiness given the resources of our nation.

Either way it's a zero sum game for those in the middle (and indeed the lower tiers) because they end up paying for both.

No reply then? Just the same old tiresome lefty response that proves you haven't yet worked out how too many people live their lives. You lot haven't changed a thing despite several decades of welfare\benefit spending making fuck all difference to certain tiers of our society. Your only answer is to splash the case because you daren't face the truth - you'd lose votes. What you've written is just heartless cobblers, poor hating bollocks from a right wing fucking pillock. Most benefits go to people in work. Why's that SB? Because at the time it enabled a labour government to massage the unemployment statistics That and the vast increase in sickness benefits Claimants Blair has a lot to answer for Never thought in my lifetime I would see a labour government trapping the working class in low wages by allowing the government to pick the slack up by tax credits
