A bit like selling Ben foster only we were strong in the goalkeeping position, it's fair to say there is a position for grabs in our central defence atm.
If we sell for 5m we're a bunch of mugs

If we let Collins go to Man Utd and Akandji go to Chelsea and not dare to use them in our 1st team, then we know where in trouble. Players like this is our future and the way back to the PL. I laughed when I read Akandji to Chelsea, did some Twitter research then realised there was something in it. The bloke is an absolute man mountain for his age. Could easily play in the 23's with his physical qualities. In terms of ability as a defender and a footballer there are better in the academy.

If he was at ajax they'd know they have to start the bidding at 30m. At stoke, 30 quid because they know we can't and haven't ever sold a player for a price. Also a bit of a difference between a 19 year old who has played over 50 first team games last year, including 17 in the Champs League as they reached the semi finals... and a 17 year old who made a break through in the Championship. I wasn't even on about one of their first teamers. They will go for more. I was on about one of their 10 year olds even! Even brentford are asking 30m for one of their players. We'll be lucky come away with 10m for butland never mind anybody else.

Can't see him going for any more than 5m. With the greatest of respect mr Hackett - you Portray EXACTLY the mentality of those who run and seemingly surround the football club SO One of the largest, if not largest football money spinners on the entire planet come to us to enquire about purchasing an asset and we immediately, 'cowtow in a smalltown way ' and put some number to it that isn't intended to offend the bigger neighbour and thats probably Stoke City's biggest failing i.e. 'we know our place sur - we are lucky to be speaking to such a massive club - whilst bowing deferentially' instead of -- 'fuck you ! hes our asset - and if you really want him you'd better get your seriously big fucking cheque book out' I can't think of a worse club than us for prices got in for outgoing players. I mean we are bad at a lot of things at this club, but top of the list for me is getting funds in for players

a bid of 1m will come in and we'll snap their hands off and party in the boardroom. With pizza and cake. Cartwright will be doing his dance around the office again, the fat fuck. Why would he, it's nothing to do with him. Scholes deals with outgoing transfers not Cartwright

Forgive me if somebody has already said something similar but could it be that this is 'old news' to NJ and that having given him a debut etc he got wind that Man Utd were coming in for Collins and decided to not play him as he's not going to be part of our future? Well, get as much as we can if he's offski that's what I say, however, even when young and ambitious one should be beware the big Club trap. You can easily lose yoursef amidst all the other big egos I would imagine. Plus I would't bank on Good old Ole G being in the hot seat all that long then you can easily find yourself way down the pecking order with whoever comes in. I wouldn't be so hasty if I was NC. Man Utd are not what they used to be.

We hold the cards.
They pay some kind of premium or we tell them to do one. They're paying for potential, not experience, but that's nothing new and doesn't necessarily diminish the fee.
£10m is the new 5m.
There's a premium whenever Man Utd buy a player. That's just a consequence of being the richest club in the world.
Rabbi Matondo went to Schalke from Man City in January for £12m without playing a senior game. Patrick Roberts went from Fulham to Man City 3 or 4 years ago, as a 17-year-old, for £12m.
If the buying club perceive you're going to be a Man Utd player, even potentially, surely you have to pay the fee for a Man United player?
I'd be looking for an initial £10m and add-ons going much higher before engaging seriously with them. If you listen to anyone around our academy, this guy is clearly the crown jewel of the last decade, production-wise.

Patrick Roberts had broken through tbf, think Sessegnon when Fulham went up, he would've gone for similar money. They're paying £15m for the Swansea player who has been a regular all season and ripped many a defender apart. Collins hasn't even played 90 minutes yet has he?! We'll be lucky to get half of £15m unfortunately. As for holding the cards, we don't. Unless the offer is ridiculously low there's no way we'll stand in the way of a potential "dream move" as long as we're well compensated. It's the way of the football world.

We aren't a charity. I think we'd be inclined to let him go if they offer a fee that isn't a piss-take. They either believe he can be a Man Utd player or they don't. £10m is gamble money these days, nothing more. I don't think we'll let them cherry-pick the academy's best-ever prospect for a few million just because "we couldn't stand in his way" 2019 fees are different to 2017 fees which were on a different scale to 2015 fees. Roberts had only started 2 games, although he was perceived as the next big thing. But that was 4 years ago when we were paying £12m for Shaqiri and thinking we were big hitters. Now Bournemouth are spending nearly £30m for journeymen. I think the Man Utd premium is important. We wouldn't get as much if it was Bournemouth or Watford. And the Matondo precedent is there. I'd be looking at £10m guaranteed - with everything else being down to performance and development, maybe £2m for every chunk of 20 appearances up to a certain figure. If he doesn't become the player they believe he will, they don't have to pay anything else. If he does, they have to pay a fair price for a very young player who plays 100+ games for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

NJ just didn’t want to play the youngsters and given we’re linked so far with strikers and CBs, it doesn’t seem like he’s going to do - it doesn’t bode well for Colin’s, Souttar and Campbell.

I'm not sure about that Faye. I guess it really depends on his current contract. If it's 2 years or under then I suppose it's a tough one. If it's 3 years or more we could and should play him, let his value increase and hope we get back in the prem with him onboard. One thing in our favour is we don't need to sell, I'd like to think we can stave off interest for at least a year
