You’re assuming their sexuality? Heard it all now 😆 Nope not at all. Even if you sing it to female Brighton fans who have a huge poster of a man with them saying that he is her boyfriend? What if the giant poster of a man is actually someone that’s gender neutral and can only be referred to as they, them or that. Unless you’re against everything they stand for?

Who'd have thought Whitby was such a hotbed of queerness etc. The variation in names is more than the people who live there.

Just wondering if we have any LGBT fans on here. If so, has there ever been a problem regarding your sexuality from our fans, away fans or on away days? And if you have, what could the club do to improve your match day experience? I'm not gay myself, Just curious as a lot of clubs have LGBT groups and as far as im aware, we as a club do not. Yeah I’m gay but I really don’t need anything to be changed to help my sexuality. I go to the match to watch football, not to demand recognition for my sexuality..

I opened the thread and though it was a call to “Lets Get Behind Team”. Clearly not.
I really don’t believe it matters if some one is a LGBT or not we all support Stoke and should be treated equal and with respect.

I am, and have never had any issues at the match - but then how would other know that I'm gay? No interest in an LGBT SCFC Group, just like the poster's sister above - I find no need to categorise myself, I live just fine, openly within society and do not need separating. We are all just Stoke City fans, regardless of sexuality/gender identification/foot fetishes/vegetarianism/eye colour.
I very much agree with the sentiments, however I see it slightly differently. A SCFC LGBT Fan Group isn't, per se, about separation or segregation. Like you, I've never really had an issue at the match itself (although I've overheard some pretty nasty remarks about gay people in the stands and the concourse in the past), but I admit that my husband and I are very cautious about how we behave and what we say at the ground. We're very probably being unnecessarily wary, but the fact that it's often been just the two of us rather than a group, we are a little more careful. And whilst I've never had a problem at the ground, I have been given dog's abuse in pubs in the past both before and after matches for having the audacity to, you know, be in there having a pint. Once a (very drunk) guy was incredibly aggressive towards me and I was asked to leave to 'give him a chance to cool off'. That's right I was asked to leave for just standing there next to the bar minding my own business whilst a pissed up fella threw homophobic abuse at me. Not one other patron stood up for me either. Must admit, that knocked my faith in my fellow Stokies for a good while. Times have changed now though so hopefully if that were to ever happen again, it would be him that would get thrown out of the pub and other people would have told him to shut up. Would a LGBT Fans group make any difference to making people feel more comfortable and confident at the games? Who knows, but anecdotally from such groups at other clubs, it seems that it would. Would I join them? Probably not (although I'm certainly not against the idea). As with other LGBT Fans groups at other clubs, no LGBT person is forced to join them; they can 'get on with their business' just as they always have done. It's just a fans group where people can come together and socialise and have a good time at the footy. Some will go to the match with mates they grew up with, some with their families, some will happily go to the match on their own and make friends with whoever they happen to be sitting with on the day, some will meet up with their fellow supporter group members beforehand and enjoy the match as a group; we'll all experience it however we think best for us. I don't see how a LGBT fans group differs significantly from having a 'Swedish Stoke Supporter Group' or an 'East of England Stoke Fans Group'. Some would join, some won't, and life goes on.
I agree, people are free to do as they decide and form groups if they want to. I think the fact that there is no LGBT SCFC group, is likely due to no-one from the LGBT community wanting to form one. Formation of such a group should come from a group of LGBT fans that want such a group, ie Swedish people formed a SCFC supporters club - not SCFC forming a group for Swedish fans.

Oh, supporter branches and groups should absolutely be fan-led, no doubt. If the club can help in any way for them to be a success, then it should, but I don't believe that they should be creating them. As far as I'm aware, all of Stoke's supporter branches have been created by fans.

I have a 1971 MGB, may be more of us than you know! Therefore you're being bullish over the minority. You'd better never come to the match in it now, there will be a pro modern car protest group. Costello, C or other? B Roadster 1.8 chrome bumper

If there was a fan led Stoke LGBT group with a ruddy great banner behind the Boothen, I for one, would be chuffed to bits. Fucking sick of Stoke City / S-o-T being seen nationally as some cultural backwater.

Im a gay Stoke fan but have never seen the need/want for any specific LGBT group... what purpose it would serve I have no idea! The opportunity for inclusion and to foreground a progressive mindset to sexuality, no? Working in education, I've always seen these kind of groups as much about belonging as they are a way to normalise the non-hetero normal for the heteros. Not that you need me to heterosplain LGBT community issues.

Lgbt, females and minority races have been persecuted at the hands of heterosexual white males for too long. The sooner this overpowering group of individuals is wiped out the safer it will be for everyone.

Have a look on the EE board and you’ll see why I gave up discussing everything else on the Oatcake roughly around the time Smudge and team decided to decant everything else away from talking about Stoke City / football. When you find yourself trying to talk sense in to a thinly veiled racist at gone midnight you start to question your sanity. I'm well rid of all of that madness.
