No idea what the 'news' is supposed to be in this Dorsett tweet? "That's lovely (again), Rob!"

Barnsley just actually announced his replacement. Fancy announcing a signing, eh?

Wonder if the club are providing information in the hope it drives a sale for Butland? What, you think Villa are waiting patiently for us to sign a keeper before they bid for Jack? That's jolly sporting of them.

What’s he like at the stuff Butland isn’t good at? Catching? Command of area? Kicking?

What’s he like at the stuff Butland isn’t good at? Catching? Command of area? Kicking? In the same section: “It seems harsh to pinpoint weaknesses after a season in which he barely put a foot wrong. “Previously his kicking and his ability to deal with crosses had been questioned by fans but they have both improved significantly, especially in the last year. “He has also been better at coming out of his area and using his feet, which was encouraged by head coach Daniel Stendel.”

The catching and command are the real things here, lots of keepers make saves and that’s why I’m not a big fan of Butland, he makes saves he should make but struggles with the tough stuff. Got to hope this dude keeps that new found confidence up but this isn’t the environment for that which is worrisome.

A pretty decent keeper shoud be ten a penny in the Championship it's not the difference between going up or not. Don't forget who we got promoted with last time. Butland is a luxury we cant afford in this league. Davies will do for me.

Never seen him play, but the best goalie in league 1 last season must mean something.

That’s an absolutely class statement imo. I'm disappointed it's taken 3 hours to get a response to that to be fair. The moment I read it, it jumped out at me.

That is superb. You can tell that he means every single word HE has written there. Not dictated for someone to wrote. That is what I call a class player.

That’s an absolutely class statement imo. Never seen him play so can't say if he's good or not however that statement by him tells you what a good character he is. After Jese, Berahino e.t.c this is important.

Wigan manager said very good things about him, he didn't have to. Only issue is his fitness record.

Never seen him play, but the best goalie in league 1 last season must mean something. It means he is good at a lower level than we are in, it doesn't necessarily follow that he will repeat at a higher level, but I hope he does!

If Butland goes, another comes in

He has said he wants "3 first-team keepers", hasn't he? So if Butland goes, presumably there will be another coming in, so we aren't reliant on the 19yo Bursik as No.3 But I'd be pretty much amazed if any new keeper who came in would genuinely threaten Davies as the No.1. He sure as hell hasn't come to sit on the bench, so the Randolph link was really odd

It's common sense for a team with promotion aspirations to have 2 really decent GK's isn't it? My money is still on begovic when/if butland moves

My money is still on begovic when/if butland moves He's on 90k-a-week for the next 2 seasons though, isn't he? I think we can rule him out. It'll be fascinating to see what level any new GK will be at, because a pecking order will quickly become established and one keeper will end up getting 35-40 games. And so I don't think that other keeper can be too ambitious, or at the stage of his career where that isn't an option for him, development-wise. They need to effectively know their place - and presumably that will be shadowing Davies. As daft as it seems,a 34yo with 200 Championship starts like Federici is about par for that role IMO

It's the equivalent of 25m for butland sale, imo. I think the butland money will be reinvested straight back in to a proven top level keeper myself. I can certainly seeing Quy putting in the right words for him and he seems to have an input in gk's

The Randolph link certainly would indicate that - but we don't know if there's anything at all in that. I just can't imagine for a second that Davies would have settled on this move unless he was pretty much convinced he's be at least starting out as No.1. It'd potentially be career suicide Randolph, for one, wouldn't be coming in as anything but undisputed No.1 either - and Begovic certainly wouldn't.
