Simplistically I think it's because he looks and sounds like one of us, like he really cares, that black jacket just finishes it off a treat. And he seems to have the easy knack of just brushing off any questions about the results, his raw intensity just seems to smoke them away. He's done for me, I'm firmly now on-side! And because the team’s performances are getting better? Yes, we are improving!

Really can’t fathom why the fans love him. Last home game chanting Nathan jones’ barmy army at 0-0... bizzarre. I haven’t seen any real attacking football - Leeds is the only really good tactical performance I’ve seen from him. As for bringing youngsters through Hughes and Rosetta called Edwards up so that’s just false. He’s still got a team of players the rest of this league could only dream of and he’s still churning out 0-0’s and losing to teams left right and centre. No upgrade on GR for me, just less of a tossed. As others have said - we’ll find out how good he is after a pre season. I don’t expect much but I’d be very happy to be proved wrong. Hughes hung Edwards out to dry by chucking him in away at the big clubs in games he’d written off. Rowett thought Martina was a better option. Verlinden, Tymon and Sorensen have all got game time under him as has Campbell. In what way is it ‘just false’? Whether or not you think Edwards was hung out to dry is irrelevant he got game time. (and valuable experience from it.) Hughes/ already gave Campbell/Sorenson debuts. Hughes(/Lambert?) and Rowett played Edwards. The arguments made throughout this thread are pretty much 'at least NJ gives youth a chance' as if to suggest others didnt. But it's a false argument. Verlinden now compared to Verlinden at the start of the season, considering injuries etc probably wasn't even in consideration. Point being we've been slowly blooding youth regardless of manager for the past 3 years - so claiming Edwards and Verlinden are a symptom of the success of NJ is also false. If he had any sense at all he'd drop Mclean for Verlinden, we ought to see much much more of him. And as for Collins Souttar and Campbell, they've all been shipped off anyway. I know who I'd prefer to come on for an injured shawcross...

Said since day I one , he has a ferocious desire and ariculation reminiscent of shankly for me in that , he deserves our snd the boards unstinting support . It’s a big summer but it’s not his inky one I expect next year to be better but may be top ten , scraping round the play offs with a mixture of good and bad , 2020 /21 will be his season as g builds on top 10 for a real tilt tilt at the top two . He’s my backing all the way whoever he decides to move on and no matter how tough the going gets our choice is made and his way is now the way and I expect it too be a rosy future I see the 'old' Benji is back...totally incoherent

Far too early to judge
problem is: he alone cannot deal with the 'elephant in the room' i.e. a transit van full of overpaid useless tools
the club just wont be able to get rid of - unless, they pay up their contracts or, sack them
and those culpable / responsible for said transit van full of overpaid rubbish
are still at the club !!!!

Actually starting them and sticking with them is something Jones looks to have far more interest than Pulis/Hughes/Rowett did. Given no other manager has given Verlinden any game time in the league, how can it not be claimed as being down to him? Rowett wouldn’t have picked him in a trillion years. Actually giving Edwards a proper run in the team, we’re saying that’s less important in his development than giving him his debut then only sporadically picking him? What a bizarre argument. Sending players out to get experience on loan sounds eminently sensible to me.

Nathan Jones has Stabilized the ship true - the key will be:- given the massive liabilities the club will still carry on over into the summer
whether this new fairly young and ambitious manager will be allowed to commit to the surgery he wants to perform to fashion the club in his image
I worry - he wont be.

We're a long way off being a side like Norwich , but there are signs of improvement. It's going to come down to Summer recruitment.

Mr toxic
Specifically - we still have players at the club we paid a fortune for - leeching away at the clubs resources with their extortionate wages, without even stepping on the pitch, added to this, players at the club that should've been shifted off quite sometime ago
along with, reducing parachute payments i.e. critical income
i.e. our running costs are ridiculous - and we face incremental reducing income with players on long contracts, try as we might we cant / wont shift .
and so I fear, as this new manager approaches the summer, he will - with his hands all but tied
does this help ?

He deserves no credit for playing Edwards because he didn’t give him his debut, but did give Verlinden his debut but doesn’t deserve credit for that because something something injuries? Does that cover it?

Don't forget there is another round of pay cuts due for our ex Premier League players , that will not only reduce the wage bill but make it easier to move some of them on.

I see, so you think the Wimmers and Imbulas of the world still being here will impact on the funds available to Jones to spend in the summer. Fair enough. Personally I don’t think they’d have appointed this kind of manager if they weren’t prepared to back him, but we’ll see.

I shudder to think what our forward looking income / expenditure, spreadsheet looks like right now and it wont improve without massive surgery i.e. Financial surgery the present incumbents have plainly, been unable to deliver given the very few real assets still with us - we'll probably have to sacrifice them to balance the books too its a big, big, worry

Why do you care Tony?
You said and took great delight in announcing it that you and “ our kid “ had turned your back on the club and were no longer going to attend SCFC matches again prior to deleting your last account ....the words you used in regards the football club were beyond the pale at times
You were actually wearing it like a badge of honour...I’m confused

Good sign yesterday when we can win away when not playing very well.
Jones has improved a number of players like Butland, Edwards, Allen (playing more sensibly), Ryan (back to better form), Afobe is actually trying now, Indi is now making a decent fist of LB. As for Etebo he is becoming very hot property.
Jones is still trying with Ince, McClean and Clucas, but the first 2 for me are lost causes.
I wonder what Jones can do with Imbula, Wimmer, and N'Diaye? I suspect he could turn N'Diaye into an excellent player if he is interested ever again with us.
Clearly anyone over 30 will be shipped out.

With respect they dont get 'shipped out' - not unless they actually want to go -
They sit on their extremely lucrative contracts these-days
and being honest its gotta be around 1000 games all told ( since 1970) and I'm also still suffering from
PTSD pretty much every time I remember how we so stupidly and conciously threw our own premier league status away.
the lap of honour round an empty ground
Mark Hughes in the Coates family box at Ascot later that summer
to be then given a virtual 'blank cheque book' when the writing was already - clearly on the wall
things I cant forgive nor, forget.
And Arnie saw this coming before pretty much anyone else did
and so, the best player I've seen in a Stoke shirt for 25 years ( yes asshole too) - got pelters for it

He is no Alan Durban. I see us slowly stabilising and that is good news. However, the jury is still out whether or not he will last past Christmas. Can we hit the ground running in August? Are we destined for more of the same as we have seen this past 3 months? I find it very hard to determine if this is the dawn of a new age or more of the same. Typical, sly, confrontational post SGS

Nathan is doing exactly what he said when he arrived. He wanted to get the foundations right and then start to move the club forward. He said it would take some time and there would be some setbacks. Well we've all seen the setbacks with some poor and dreary performances, but slowly but surely we can also see the progress the team is making. We're much more difficult to beat, keeping clean sheets, and our midfield is improving, but still needs to get better. The one glaring shortfall is attack where more goals would have perhaps 6 more wins instead of draws and would have seen us on the fringe of the playoffs.
He knows how he wants to do things, and he's been steadily assessing which players can do the job he wants them to do. It seems he's definitely getting his philosophy across to the players.
Huge summer ahead but I'm absolutely confident that Nathan will get the job sorted. Big improvement next season, maybe a playoff place, but 20/21 season is when I think he'll have us in the automatic promotion places.

Arnie “saw it coming”, bollocks. He’s a great player but a shallow and greedy mercenary who’d whore himself out to the highest bidder foregoing job satisfaction and potential medals in the pursuit of cash.

Can't say I'd heard much, of anything, of him before he arrived.
I was heartened by the outpouring of emotion from the Luton fans whennhe kett them, I don't remember the Derby fans being anywhere near as bothered about Rowett leaving.
He's said the right stuff, recruited a couple of decent looking players and sorted the defence out.
Along with that he's prepared to give most if not all some sort of chance to stake a claim for a place in the team (too much of a chance in McClean's case for me) including the yoof.
I was pretty impressed shortly after his arrival and I'm even more impressed now, he'll certainly do for me and, finances permitting, I'll be lumping on as soon as I can for next season, I think we'll do well.

He didn't recruit Batth or Vokes, what concerns me is that he keeps selecting McClean who is one of the worst footballers in this league and Clucas who isn't much better, I can not see what his plan is he appears to have abandoned the diamond, we have returned to binary football which we all hated under Pulis.
