Nah, he's not even the best player from his country. ah. Diego I agree. I’m aware of the genius of maradona but wasn’t around in his era just seen bits and I know football has changed over the years but surely messi needs to be held in greater esteem. Maybe when he is retired. Plus hand of god and all that

Messi will never be able to prove that kind of characteristic. forget any other footballer for me, Maradona was simply fookin ace, hand of god or not.

No, try again, because it's just opinion, and in mine Messi isn't even the greatest player of his generation, never mind ever. I was just interested in knowing why Messi "has" to go down as the better footballer.

The joy he has brought to neutrals with his brilliance. It’s a different generation so maybe it’s unfair to compare and the game has changed a lot as I said before. But after messi retires and people look back should he be held in greater esteem? I think so

I think so All fair points but Maradona won the world cup for his country and won Napoli their first ever title. Barcelona still would have been stupidly successful without Messi over the last 12 years or so, the two teams I mentioned wouldn't have if it wasn't for Maradona.

I say this as a proud Englishman but that 1986 England side wasn't fit to lace his boots let alone the rest of the Argentinian team. We lost to a far superior team. I got over it pretty quickly. Probably a lot of shit coming my way but that's the truth.

Read his biography, its a belting read

We had Peter fucking Reid wallowing about in midfield. I need say no more. Wonder how close Reid would have got to their team.

Being diplomatic we should just appreciate how good both players are and have been I suppose. But that’s not what we do. I will deffo give Diego’s biography a read now tho.
