It seems Jack’s mind has been made up for a while that he doesn’t want to stay, yet he’s consistently pulled up short of putting in an official transfer request.
His stock is lower now than it was 3 years ago but it’s the known level that he can and will again perform at that’s reflected in Stoke’s valuation placed on him £30m.
This situation has affected his performance levels particularly at the start of last season and is doing so yet again now. With no reasonable offers forthcoming from the UK he has now stated he would be prepared to go abroad, with just 2 weeks left of that window. Besides being unsettling for him it must also be having a big effect on the dressing room particularly when he is seen to be error prone again and playing below par.
There has to be a case for arguing that he shouldn’t be our automatic no 1 right now.
So why hasn’t Jack put in a transfer request? The argument about unsettling or causing a rift in the dressing room doesn’t hold water as everyone knows he wants to leave. So it’s almost certainly down to lucrative contractual bonuses being withheld if he did. Despite claims of loyalty to the club and fans this is usually the reason most players no longer submit official transfer requests as these payments tend to be spread incrementally over the duration of the player’s contract.
It’s not that I think Jack wants it both ways, he’s actually behaving better than many others in this sort of situation but it is affecting his performance level and almost certainly having an impact on the squad and their performances too.
Perhaps Jones should be managing this situation in the way Man U did with De Gea a couple of seasons ago and play a fully committed keeper until Jack’s mind is right and he can either properly compete for the shirt or has left?

Logical However Federici simply isn't good enough and it seems Davies is completely out of sorts right now. Davies not playing at Wigan pretty much guarantees Butland keeping his place for now.

Well I don't think that 2 goalkeepers will be enough for the season can we take a replacement on loan?

I'm really not comfortable with these unfounded claims that Jack is desperate to leave. Were he that desperate to leave he'd have been more vocal about this desire to go, transfer requests would have been likely and you'd probably have a player making it difficult for the club to keep him, ala n'zonzi, begovic and arnie. Jack has done nothing other than Express a well known desire to play at the highest level in order to keep his international aspirations alive whilst also publicly expressing just how difficult he will find it to leave our club. He's represented our club impeccably since being here and of all the players we've had in recent years, he is by far and away the best and most approachable, particularly with the kids. Jack will know hes not been at his best so far this season but I find it uncomfortable when people question his commitment to our cause. I sincerely hope he stays and that we get promoted so he doesn't feel the need to leave next summer

But he remains determined to leave Stoke and is now ready to head abroad in order to secure a switch that will allow him to play top level football again. He can be as determined as he wants. Who's going to put £20-odd million down on the table for him? Shirley a loan +loan fee then we'd try and shift to the tune of £18m+ next Aug/Jan

Why the hell would anybody in their right mind suggest (or even think it's a good idea) we loan out Jack Butland?
If anybody wants him, then he's available for a fee deemed acceptable by the club.

Well I don't think that 2 goalkeepers will be enough for the season can we take a replacement on loan? Have to be a free agent signing I'd imagine. Only one I'd even consider on the list if Butland goes is Michael Vorm on a short term deal. Celtic hoping to sign him so would have to be quick.

If Davies isn’t better than Federici, and Jones clearly doesn’t think he is. Then there’s absolutely no way we can lose Butland this window.

Depends doesn't it. I'd like a flat fee, and for all involved to move on. But if he's going abroad, who has the money above 20M to outright buy a keeper who needs one? It'll end up being some turkish bullshit...

He’s playing at the level that his current form is suited to- last year he was okay, but certainly nothing exceptional and this year he’s got 1 save ( 6 shots on target , 5 goals)- no one is going to pay close to our valuation at the moment.

To be in the frame for England he needs to be in top form. He is not moving to anyone in England, and i doubt to anyone abroad for a fee.
He needs to find his form and quick to keep himself in the England picture. I don't believe he will be overlooked for England if he is in top form. And in all honesty Pickford is No1 at the moment so he is not missing out.
He is a very down to earth guy and his form will pick up and hopefully the whole team will as well with him.
Not sure i would believe anything written in the Daily Mail !

Banks was arguably the greatest of all time (some say that honour belongs to Lev Yashin, but that’s for another day). However, as said before, Banks’s reputation and record was enhanced greatly by having two players in front of him that he could rely on. For England he had Booby Moore and Jack Charlton, certainly the best CH combination that ever pulled on England jerseys At Stoke he had Smith and Bloor, the best CH combination i have ever seen. Butland was at his best when he played behind Huth and Shawcross, and his decline coincided with the failure to replace Huth (his injury exacerbated the situation). I’d never want to see TP in the Stoke dug-out, but nobody knew this better than him. Jones is trying to build up the center of the defence and Butland’s form will improve if he pulls it off.

This is the guy who turned down a contract extension that would have doubled his wages back to what they were in the premier league.
